1 - Make sure the shampoo is out of your hair to bring back the PH level.

2 -The longer you leave a conditioner in your hair the better. It will help seal up split ends.

3 - Hair is best cut when dry. It won't shrink up as much.

4- A cool setting on your dryer, will help set your hair.

5 - More volume, Take a regular can of beer. Mix it with 1/4 cup water. Put it in a spray bottle. Now wash your hair. Leave it damp. Now spray this lightly on your hair. I said lightly. Now roll your hair up. It will be a crisp feeling when it dries. But it combs out easy. Now we have never tried it on straight hair. Or you can use a root lifter. For fine hair put it right on the roots. Other types  put it on from a third of the way down to the ends. Now blow dry. If you want more width, then bend from the waist. Let your hair fall and blow dry. This will give more width, but not height.

6 - Plastic hair bands coat the insides with conditioner. Now they'll stay put, and won't slide.

7 - A little dab of petroleum jelly will give hair shine and a healthy glow.

8 - Fine hair needs a shorter cut. It will give it more body.

9 -Get yellow out of gray hair, use a blue shampoo.

10 - For gray hair steep this concoction. Take 1/4 cup of rosemary, and 1/4 cup of sage, and 2 cups of water. Simmer for 30 mins. Now let it sit for 2 hours. Strain. Pour over head and leave until dried. Rinse. Repeat weekly until you get the color wanted. Then do it monthly to keep the color.

6 - Always dry your roots first, then the ends.

As a precaution to others reading these, I have to disagree with some. Split ends are permanent damage and cannot really be "repaired", only glued back together or trimmed off with scissors. More time will not increase the effectiveness of a silicone conditioner. Although it might help to distribute the conditioner more evenly using a comb.
Petroleum jelly is near-impossible to remove from hair.
Fine hair can look very beautiful at extreme lengths.

For these, I was hoping to get more information... I've never heard these particular tips before.
and I dry my ends first. I've never had any problems and I love my hair. What happens when you dry your ends first?  Can you tell me a little more about this? I hope you're not offended, this is just new to me. That's interesting.

When you dry the ends first, it gives you more fullness. It will help more to get the style your after. I just bend at the waist let mine fall and blow dry. Use my fingers a lot in the root area while blowing. I have also used vaseline on mine. Put it on my fingers tips very lightly, and go through my hair. Have you ever used any thing like V O 5? Where you take just a dime size of it. Well I use the vaseline, or petroleum the same way. It helps to prevent splits. Will get back to you on the split ends. I've got loads of them in my notebook. These have been collected from all over. So I'm not sure about it. See if I can find more. Don't expect you 's to agree on all. I'm just putting them out, and you guys deside what you want to try. Most are cheap so nothing to lose. Several I have tried. Several my kids and friends have tried. Now I'm getting feed back, in from the ones they have tried over sea.Their tickled pink. Want a truck load. Don't know about a truck load. I may have half a truck.

I found a web sight on a conditioner that helps strengthen, moisturize and heal split ends. Very faint. Can hardly read it. That's all so far. My notes just say conditioner will heal split ends.

Hi Anais,

Oh my god yes.  I get at least one email a week asking how to get Vaseline or petroleum jelly out of the hair.  And the options for that are not great.  You can use cornstarch (super messy) or you can use Ivory dishwater soap (horribly damaging to the hair - strips the cuticle) or you can try blotting with paper towels (can cause split ends).

Basically step away from the Vaseline or petroleum jelly.

I do appreciate the tips though.  Everyone has their own opinions of what works and I always like to hear what others say.  Unfortunately I have spent the last 8 years answering emails about Vaseline in the hair and had to speak up and agree that it can be really a pain in the cuticles.  :-)

PS. Conditioner can help to "temporarily" glue split ends together.  I use Phyto 9 at the very tips of my ends...if they are split (I do search and destroy a couple of times a week with my barber scissors).  I also use Burt's Bee's Lip Balm to seal them.  But they do not heal permanently.  Just temporarily.

And thank you Sunduster.  I veyr much appreciate you taking the time to type all the hints.

Anais you are always so polite, sweet and helpful.  Thanks for all your support.  :-)

Guys, vaseline is a mixture of hydrocarbons. Comes out of mine by shampooing. It might take three doses.

But thats the point.  Three doses of shampoo will strip the cuticle.  There is no need to do this since Vaseline/petroleum jelly is purely optional.  I advocate that because of all the chemicals in shampoo that people dilute with water and never use more than one shampoo treatment per shower/washing.  So if it requires 3 shampoo applications...that is way too much for the healthy mantle of the hair.

I understand your constructive criticism. So don't blow me away yet.  I use it on my hair, brows, and lids. It doesn't always take three shampoos. Also I only do it once a month. Mine grows nice no problem. I'm always cuttin it. I only use a dime size for my whole head.  Well at any rate your advice is good, so I stand corrected.

So many people are dissatisfied, with their new hair cut after leaving a salon. Why, most of the time the beautician, didn't give them the cut they wanted. Next time take a photo, out of a magazine, of a cut you really like. Take it to your stlist. Ask if she can give you the same cut. She may say no, due to your face shape. It might not look right on ya. But it's worth a shot.

When I want to change my style I go huntin. The best place is the mall. I look for a lady with a sharp style, and cut. Then walk up to her. Don't be shy, just smile. Ask her who her hairdresser is? Tell her you like her hair style. Also you're looking for a good one. Nine times out of ten she'll tell you.

Next time you need a cut, you need a cut, you know where to go.
