I live in the Atlanta area, I found a wonderful Dominican Salon in the Marietta area. If anyone is in search of a Dominican Salon in the Atlanta area then ladies here it is:

Went there as a newbie when I stopped with the relaxers, my hair type is 4a/b, didn't have a clue as to what I was going to do with my hair, braids breaks out my hair and I didn't know what else to do...when I explained all this to my stylist she assured me that she knew just what to do...so with a wave of her wrist and that magic roundbrush she had my hair silky and satin...when I left the shop people would stop and ask me if I was indian. Plus with the products that she gave me to use at home helps to keep my hair soft and manageable. "Go Dominican" I'm glad I did.
I went to that site and cannot register. It keeps saying my email is invalid and there is no phone number to call them. I ended up ordering from sickbay but I notice pelobonito's prices are cheaper !
And op, thanks for the info. I was beginning to think there no Dominicans in Atlanta ! Can you tell me what process you got and how much it cost ? Thanks.
Stinastina, let me see if I can help you out. www.pelobonito.com sucks; they have like, 17 products. Go to http://store.sickbay.biz/index.html and http://www.ibeautyny.com/index.asp and you will find any and everything you could possibly want in Dominican products. Seriously. Sickbay's prices are cheaper but ibeauty has an extensive selection. I'm getting ready to place an order today for Silicon Mix, Crom Emergencia, and La Bomba. And there are plenty Dominicans in Atlanta. They're mostly in Norcross and you have several options to consider. There's Lily's (by far the most popular and crowded), Norma's, Sula's, Juanita's, Karisma, Orqueida's and the list goes on. But they're all in an approx. 5 mile radius from one another around the Jimmy Carter area. I don't know where you're from but down here everything is more expensive. I know you can get a wash/set up north for $15 but it'll cost you at least $25 here. I pay $30 and that includes the conditioner. Good luck!

Gagirl - Thank you so much for your reply ! I ended up ordering from sickbay and I just got more lacio and the 10 en 1 deep conditioner (which smells so good, like you could eat it !). And THANK YOU for naming all the dominican salons ! Tell me which one is your favorite. I am definitely looking for someplace to go to when I want my hair striaght. I live in Tucker right now so I am not far from Jimmy Carter at all. Before I would drive way out to Lawrenceville to pay $35 for a wash and flat iron that only lasted a few days. THANKS AGAIN !

I just wanted to let you guys know that I started down Jimmy Carter on my way to one of the places Gagirl isted above, but stopped when I saw a sign that said Dominican Hair Salon. There was only one other client there so I thought, cool ! and went in.
They did a fabulous job on my hair. I got a wash, roller set and they blow dried the roots a little and trimmed my ends. It cost $35. And my hair looks like it was just relaxed. And it smells great. I stopped relaxing my hair a year ago. I am very happy. Now, let's see how long it stays straight !
Their address is: 4782 Jimmy Carter #2B. there were 2 ladies working there: Rosa (the stylist and roller setter) and Mari (shampoo-er and massager - she really massaged my scalp good !). Tell them Christina recommended you if any of you go.

That's the one thing that I cannot understand about being in Atlanta, the list price for the salons.
These prices here are ridiculous. Yes, I am used to the $15.00 Wash & Sets in NY. They pay much more rent up North for their space there. These people don't pay that much rent here, they're taking advantage. They are milking it up I guess because there's alot of demand and not alot of competition YET!!!. Maybe someone up North will come down here and be more reasonable with their prices. Hopefully as more Dominican shops open up, there will be more competition and hopefully some price wars.
Another thing that they do here is charge for so called "natural hair". My daughter has fine soft curly hair, which is EASIER to do than permed or kinky hair like mine. They charge more for that and it's not right.
They do a wonderful job on hair, but they get greedy at times. I'm gonna put them on blast and call them out on radio here.

Please don't flame me because it is an honest question. Why do African American women always seem VERY convinced and excitied that someone of another race/nationality can take the best care of them? Korean nail care, asian false hair, african braiders and now dominican hairstylists. It feels a little like self distrust. I am truly asking out of curiosity and concern.

I don't think it has anything to do with embracing other cultures. As a matter of fact, many Dominicans are of african descent just like african americans. Koreans may just charge less than anyone else and they are very convenient as far as locations and hours. And what is wrong with african americans sporting african braids ?!?
If you want to get technical EVERYONE is of African descent. There is nothing WRONG with letting anyone provide you with services but how many black owned businesses thrive in chinatown? NONE. Why? Because they understand the importance of supporting each other and we don't. Thats my point. We will gladly hand our money over to someone that disrespects us and talks badly about us in another language TO OUR FACE but will not give a dime to a black owned business and we are the only group that consistenly does that. Its sad.

Just because some1 is speaking another language infront of you does not mean they r speaking of you. maybe u r just a little on the insure side. I personally do not waste my time speaking of others in another language i say it in the language u understand "english"
Well I am not even sure of what you are saying right now but the bottom line is that it is rude to talk in another language while someone is paying for a service from you. If you are not saying anything wrong why not include your client in the discussion ? I speak more than one language and I have heard people say some awful things when they thought the woman could not understand them.

Im not saying that many dont speak of others in other languages im pretty sure many do, but u cannot assume that everyone is like that ive seen many cases especially in dominican salons and nail shop where they cant speak any other language but their own. but back to what u had said b4, i dont think their is anything wrong with people getting their hair done a specific way. Dominican style is only a technique that consists of different treatments and conditoners for ur hair set ad blow dry. Every1 has their preference of how they like their hair done. They r going not to waste thier money but becuz they like the way they do their hair.
I agree with that but the bottom line is that other nationalities have pride in themselves and stick together as a whole and Black Americans do not. As a Dominican you know what i am talking about. You all stick together and look out for each other. Thats why you are successful.
