First off, I have no  clue on how hair extensions are done, proffessionally or at home. I've heard of shrinkies mircro rings, etc... I was wondering how long does it usaully take to do your own at home and what kind of hair could I use that would be cheap, easy to take care of and easily removed.

I've done possibly everything that could be done to my hair. I was previously blonde but went black and now I want to make the black longer and add spits of blonde in it.... here is a picture of a girl that kind of rep. what I am looking at.
I need volume and some ump to my thin hair. I want something that's wild and sexy... I think this is... could I do this at home and order the prodcuts offline? I def. need some help!

Hey again Bambi Lee,

www.shrinkies.net has excelent costumer service and good products and the prices are totally good:D

www.drlocks.net has some cheap hair that sucks ,and some that dont...^^ but i would advise to do a "test" run with some cheap hair to se if Hair Extensions is for you.

As for what method it depends on how long and thick your hair is. But for the look on that picture above,  strand by strand is ideal. Shrinkies are super easy to do ,and for a firstimer a full head may take maby about 4 -5 hours. That is if you buy already Pretipped hair.

Microrings are easy and kind to the hair if done correct...put is quit tricky to open for a new beginner(took a long time for me to open them up correctly)

So Shrinkies i think is the way to go. But thats just my humble opinoin^^ rock on

Also, www.shrinkies.net has excelent Demos on how to do them! ^^

I'm looking at thier site right now. Thank you so much. Now as for people speaking about damage, what kind of damage can you get from hair extensions? I'm going to do the shrinkies and I'll do hair that is cheap for a first timer. If I can get the hang of it, I'll go up a class. ;) I want these so bad. My hair never get's any longer than it is now, and I think i'd look good with very long thick hair and some blonde... so excited now!

Here is a pic of my hair. It's  past my shoudlers but not thick..

Wow that demo is awesome! It looks sooo easy. I always wear my hair down... so this will work perfectly for me! Shrinkies rock... I have packages of sythetic hair I had used for braids. I can use the platium blonde for the pieces I want.... and then buy nice hair online for the black.... how exciting!

It`s so fun reading up on Hair Extensions:D its always new tings to learn:)

Aaawh, well if you dont remove them after 3 months wich is MAX time... your natural hair can be pulled from the root( cause the waigth of the extensions on the few remaining strands(natural shedding occurs) and the shedded hair also waigth down your natural hair. If theyre applied in to small sections or uneven you could pull hair from the root, or if you dont remove them carefully you could get brakeage... But if you take your precautions you will not get damage.

What you should do:

So if you remove them after 3 months carefully and take your time to let the remover sit and then carfully begin to remove them you will not get damage..:) Its also important to care for the hair when it`s in , that it does not tangle badly and such..:)

sorry im in a hurry so i hope some off our more experianced board mebers can give you a more in depth faq:)

Good Luck and good hair!!<3

When I had my braids in, I kept themi n for 3 months. They did the same thing, but our hair naturally sheds and well, when it does in braids it def has no where to go, so you get those stupid lil' white things peeking through. And god were those babies heavy and they weren't real hair so they sopped up water really well, but I really enjoyed them. I most def can do extensions.

What kind of glue do they use with shrinkies that you have to remove the residue carefully? The site is kind of confusing forme... lol.

Pre bonded (pre-tipped) hair has a tip on the end. It can look like a shoe
lace tip, or a U-shaped, fingernail looking tip.

If it's not pre-tipped, it would either be on a weft, or just hair, like when
you get a hair cut, with nothing on it.

hope that made sense, sometimes I can't explain things well.

Depends. For a full head install you usually want to use around 200
strands. Sometimes I use closer to 150, and others I use closer to 350. It
depends sometimes strands are thinner than others. Usually I end up
melting 2 strands together.

For your first install, since you don't know how many you need, I would
say always get more, just to be safe.

So if you want just a few strands of blonde, get maybe 150-200 strands
of black, but if you want half and half, it might be different.
