I did have lots of blonde in my hair and put a brown dye straight over it. It is now a deep red/brown, very dark! It wasn't the colour I was hoping for, has this happened to anyone else?

Is there anything I can do to make it go a lighter brown with no red in?

How long ago did you dye it and was it permanent dye?  If so, you could use Colorfix and remove the dye.  Then, depending on the level, you may need to lighten it further or you can put the brown dye (probably not one with a gold base) on it.  I'm no expert though Good luck!

What I've learned from this website is that many brown drugstore hair colors will pull red or brassy over light brown or gray hair and especially over highlighted hair. Even when I used ash or cool drugstore color it turned very dark red brown on me. I removed with ColorFix, didn't like what was left, and opted to go to a professional colorist to color correct back to my natural ash dark brown.
