No this is not true. Hair grows from underneath the scalp and topical egg solutions aren`t going to stimulate growth. Besides, while egg is high in protein (a good conditioning agent) the molecules are too big for the hair to absorb them. When you see protein listed in a shampoo/conditioner, the molecules have been broken down into a usable form (hydrolization.) Therefore, egg can be extremely difficult to remove from hair. You`re better off keeping yourself healthy and looking into vitamin supplements for long hair. Hope this helps!

Yes, I`m pretty certain on this one. I`ve done a lot of trichology research both online and in the library (meaning I have waaaay too much free time.) Nothing you do to your existing hair on the surface is going to make a difference to the hair roots growing beneath your scalp. Hair is dead, dead, dead from the moment it emerges from your skin, so at that point nothing you do to it topically will increase its growth rate. Growth comes from within.

Absolutely correct. Hair doesn`t have blood or nerves so it doesn`t hurt or bleed when you cut it. It is the hair follicles that determine the growth of your hair.

For a dead thing, hair is still pretty interesting. Here are some hair facts from haircare4men.com:

- healthy hair is highly elastic and can stretch 30% before snapping.

- hair can absorb it`s weight in water.

- an average head of hair when twisted together can support 23 tons in weight.

- hair is stronger than copper wire of the same diameter.

- its cell reproduction is the second most prolific in the human body; bone marrow being the first (this is the reason why hair is extremely sensitive to changes occurring in the body).

- hair is composed mainly of keratin (protein consisting of amino acids) and moisture.

- each hair grows from a follicle, an indentation in the skin, of which we are born with a specific number.

- each scalp follicle on average grows 20-30 hairs in a lifetime.

- the size of the follicle determines the thickness, and often, the length of the hair.

- each follicle has it`s own blood, nerve and muscle supply.

- hair grows about half an inch (1.25cm) a month.

- hair grows faster in the summer, during sleep and between the ages of 16 to 24.

- the growth phase - anagen - lasts an average of 3-5 years, so a full length hair averages 18-30 inches (45-75cm).

- about 90% of your hair is in the anagen (growth) phase.

- with an average of 120,000 hairs, this means that you can afford to lose about 70 hairs a day - but sometimes this is not necessarily a true reflection - the replacement factor is important.

The previous posts are all true. Nothing you put ON your hair will make it grow faster. If your diet is lacking in vitamins, that deficiency will show up in your hair and can affect your growth rate. You often see PILLS advertised as helping hair to grow (like Viviscal and HairTopia) but eggs are really used as a conditioner. If your hair is dry, eggs may help your hair look better but it will not help it grow. Sorry.

If you want to try eggs as a conditioner, I suggest this before shampooing...

Simply mix an egg with 2 tsp of olive or castor oil and massage into your hair. Rinse thoroughly.
You can also mix an egg yolk with 1/4 cup of yogurt and a little lemon rind. Again work it gently into your hair and then rinse thoroughly.

After shampooing.....

Beat a couple of egg yolks with a tablespoon or two of water (depending on the length of your hair), apply it, and then rinse after 15 minutes. If you use a whole egg whisked with a little lemon juice and condition your hair with this concoction, it will add shine also.

Be sure to rinse with COOL water or you will cook the egg in your hair and it will be quite difficult to get out.

Hope this answers your question.

Hunny, no--applying eggs to your scalp will unequivocably NOT make it grow. Hair vitamins, however, help some people with increased growth. Be sure to look at the ingredients in the vitamins, because some of the ones I`ve seen in grocery stores have the exact same nutrients as Flintstone kid vitamins. Of course, there is nothing wrong with those kind of all purpose supplements, as they are good for your overall health, and consequently, for your hair as well.

Can you tell me what ingredients to look for in a good hair supplement. And have any of you heard of Kevis? What`s your thoughts on this product? Can it help undo the damage to your scalp? Any suggests on a good product for you scalp by the way?
Please write me. My scalp is very sensitive and delicate. I need something to undo the damage. Thanks
