Hey. I'm new to this. I've been looking on here for advice and things and I decided to join. I see alot about "regimens" on here. And I'm not really sure what my hair type is. Help is wanted.

1. Are you natural or relaxed? If you are natural and describe your hair or show us a pic- we would be able to help you determine what your hair type is, however if you are relaxed we need a description of your new growth only?

2. Like most aa women, you probably have dry hair so you will need to use moisturizing products and do as much as possible to keep your hair from being dry cause dry hair is prone to splitting. Some of us use S-curl or another spray of that type, shea butter or other hair butters, creams, etc. You have to experiment to see which works best for you. Some are against parabens(you will have to decide if this makes a difference for you). Some are against surfectancts(sodium laurel , sodium laureth, etc) - you again have to decide if they make your hair dry or not.

3. Make sure that you shampoo/condition/deep condition weekly. You may also want to consider pre-pooing which is basically doing a hot oil treatment prior to shampooing- you can do this overnite or on the  day of by sitting under the dryer for a few mins. prior to shampooing. Don't forget to use a thin plastic cap. some prefer olive oil and honey, i prefer castor oil- the choice is yours.

4. always sleep with a silk or satin scarf or silk or satin pillowcase.

5. drink at least 8 glasses of water.

hope this helps to get you started.

I don't have much to add but don't forget to clarify once a month or so, depending how much hair products you use.  Also clarifying helps the deep conditioner work better since it can't penetrate through previous products you have used.  Also welcome aboard.

My hair is relaxed and my  new growth is mostly thick  and similar to cotton-not curly and not just straight up "nappy". I wear my hair in a roller set because I am trying to not use much heat on it from prior experience with my hair breaking off from flat ironing.Last year, around August, I had to cut my hair from about 1 1/2 inches below my shoulder to the middle of my neck. I was shocked to see my hair so short.

I normally oil my scalp with Parnevu T-Tree oil every 3-4 days. My scalp is in good condition. When I shampoo and condition, I use Paul Mitchell products. My friend's beautician made a leave in comditioner for me that I use also.

So can you all help me stick with a method to use on my hair consistently? Oh yea!! I am intrigued by mixing products together. Is that good or bad?

You might also like to try conditioner washes.  Many of us here have found that washing at least once a week (I wash twice) a week more healthy for our hair.  However shampoo is very drying so making one of those a condioner only wash might be better.

The one and only .  C'mere girl (((HUGS))).  I have visited this board for a long time but never bothered to join since it was pretty open.  I guess the admin shut that down since it was getting "hectic" for lack of a better word.
