Last week i got my hair braided. I read on the Grow afro hair long website that you should wash your braids. So i did. As soon as i got home i grabbed some shampoo and smoothered my scalp in shampoo. My mom looked at me and was like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!! I JUST PAID 80 BUCKS FOR YOU TO GET YOUR HAIR DONE. NOW THE BRAIDS ARE GONNA FALL OUT IN THE SINK" I ignored her and proceeded. That's when disaster struck!!!
I was tring to rinse out the shampoo but it just got even more foamy and wouldn't come out. It took me an hour to get all of it out with a towel and some water.
I then tried to put my hair in a pony tailand towel dried it. WHAT A MESS!! A TANGLED MESS!!!!! It dried but now it's not shiny (regardless of how much spritz and spray i put on it.) Now I have this ugly frizzy flat mess on my hair with braids coming out any whicha-way! UHHHH the worse part is that i have a fashion show and i can't get my hair done for a while... I want to cry.

On the growafrohairlong website she mentions a technique when washing braid extentions. Its best to dilute the shampoo with water, instead of directly pouring it on your scalp/braids. This way the shampoo will be easier to rinse out and the braids will stay in better condition.
I agree. When I had my micros I would take a empty bottle(one with a spout on the end) and put half shampoo then half warm water, shake it up and apply it to my hair like you a mustard to a hot dog. then massage the shampoo in with finger then rinse out. I then would apply a deep conditioner to my hair like you would grease or hair cream let sit for 45 min to a hour then rinse out. Then apply a spray on leave in then I would wrap my hair in a towel (long hair girl style) then let air dry. People would ask me if I just got my hair rebraided.
"God makes no mistakes" he created you the way you are suppose to be.

I'm sure they didn't say you had to wash your braids THAT DAY. If you had washed your hair the day before (or even the day of, right before going to the salon), you probably wouldn't have had to wash them again for a week.
Hair type: who knows?
Length: 23 inches as of 3/10/06
MY HAIR IS OFFICIALLY BRA STRAP LENGTH!!
Goal: Waist Length, which is only 30 inches so
ADVISE ME ON HOW TO GET JUST 7 MORE INCHES OF GROWTH!

I agree with everyone else. First, you just had the braids put in so there was no need to wash them. Secondly, when you go to sites about caring for hair please read the directions. The lady on the site does wash the braids but she also has a technique and a video to keep them looking good at the same time.
Ouch Dee. Sorry that you had to go through this. But now you know that you should never put shampoo full strength on your scalp while in braids. For one, it will be harder to rinse out and make your hair drier than before.
