Is steam heat damaging?

My grandmother gave me her Caruso Steam Hairsetter by Helen of Troy.  They are sponge rollers that uses steam heat and you set your hair in 15 minutes.  Is this safe for me to do once a week?  I air dry, but my hair is soooo frizzy when I'm done.  I thought this would be helpful, but I am trying to avoid heat as much as possible.  Is steam a safer alternative?

Steam Heat isnt damging to the hair, it locks in moisture instead of taking it out which is actually healthy for the hair. As oppose to using Direct Heat which takes moisture out of the hair. So using steam is definitely a much better and safer alternative than using direct heat.

I guess that makes perfect sense!  I'm glad I found another way to curl my hair without drying heat!

It also looks like we have been transitioning for the exact amount of time, ironic!

Co-sign, steam heat is good for the hair especially when deep conditioning.

The Caruso steam roller are perfectly harmless.  Now it was some hot steam, the kind that can burn skin, that might make "bubbles" in your hair.

Wow, I think I may have found the new way to style my hair minus heat!  I have pictures of the results on my fotki!

I got one the Caruso steam thing back when my hair was relaxed...it was on clearance. I could never make my hair turn out right and then the directions also said to add salt into the water which I think added to the problem but maybe not.

Wow worked great on your hair...looks professionally done. Keep it up. I'm going to add you to my fotki friends list.

I'm glad to hear these rollers are harmless.  I'm interesting in trying these and Vanity your hair came out so pretty.  I really want to get them now.  I'm just wondering how they would work on natural hair.  I can't imagine letting my natural hair air dry and then combing through it so I could roll it up.....it seems like it would come out so frizzy.

Yeah, I thought about that too.  I guess it will be a trial and error type thing if I buy them.  I was also thinking about wrapping it and then rolling it up after it dries.  Thanks for the suggestion.

All I did was wrap my hair to air dry then do the roller set.  My roots (the hair that is natural) came out soft and with lots of body! 

BTW, no SALT is needed!

Good to hear...maybe it will work on my natural hair. Sometimes I use the steam for my face instead and that works out well too.
