Ive heard several ppl say "white folks cant do relaxers" but a buddie of mine who goes to cosmetology school said that everyone gets taught how to do everything no matter what race you are its just white people have a hard time getting someone black to let them do thier hair.

This is true I've learned that learning comes through repetition and the more you do things the better you get. So if they do find some willing participents then they'll get better and better. If they don't they won't. It's like saying black people can't do perms (curly perms) if this something they want to do, they'll get proficient at it. That's just my take on it,

I've actually never heard anyone say white people
cant do relaxers but if people do say that its probably
becuz white ppl just DONT do relaxers since theyre
in low demand in white salons,, I've used white
hairdressers for years and im half black and half
white and i never had a bad experience till going to
Dominican hairdressers lol,, and my Russian
hairdresser has offered many times to relax my hair
with a gentle relaxer becuz she claimed that black
relaxers were too harsh for my hair which may have
been true since i lost about 60 percent of my length
when i used them! LOL right now since October I
have been doing my own hair and havent relaxed in
nearly 6 months and my hair is in better shape than
it has been in maybe7 years from just these 6
months!! sorry just had to add that in there cuz im so
hair happy
Hair type: 3b some c?, fine strands, last relaxer sept 05, never again!!! current :ap length on sides,,nearly bsl in back, damn those old frazzled ends! I am hair OBSESSED

I've known white and Japanese people who have gotten relaxers. They had wavy hair (the Japanese girl was one quarter white and got the wavy hair from her white grandfather).
Hair type: who knows?
Length: 23 inches as of 3/10/06
MY HAIR IS OFFICIALLY BRA STRAP LENGTH!!
Goal: Waist Length, which is only 30 inches so
ADVISE ME ON HOW TO GET JUST 7 MORE INCHES OF GROWTH!

Ditto Renata, I've known really curly hair white women to get relaxers.  It doesn't take as fast, as in it takes a few applications before they have straight hair, but they do it too.  What a woman won't do for beauty!

A white guy use to do my hair at J.C Pennys and he did an excellent job.  He really knew black hair.  He would give white girls alot of tips on doing black hair while he was doing mine.  Another experience where another white guy used to do my hair at Hair Cuttery and to tell the truth he did my hair better then the black girls in the salon.  I liked him so much that I would ask for him when I went in there.  People would always ask in the street where did I get my hair done... It would have soo much body, shine and bounce.

Well, let me just add my few little notes.  Almost a year ago, I was in dying need of a trim, and I was going to be spending the weekend with my boyfriend and he lives about an hour away.  In order to avoid traffic and all the fuss on the road, I decided to just find a decent salon near his way to get a trim.  He recommened his salon, Great Cuts.  I stepped in, and yeah it looked alright.  So I get called, and it is a white girl and she asks what I need, I say just a trim.  After that she immediately starts spraying WATER on my hair, then it started to shrink before my eyes.  She didn't even offer to wash(thank god she didnt).. as naiev and pleasant I am, I went ahead and let her do what she needed to do.  She takes several spots of hair and just clips them off..and doesn't even attempt to cut the middle.  She then says "it so dry and damaged, I dont want to touch it".  Which was a damn lie! my hair was absolutely great until I stepped in that place. And I said..what in the world are you talking about...I guess she got discouraged..and rummaged for her blow dryer and pick comb attachment..she then turns it on and starts putting heat on my unclean hair.  Then she admits to not knowing how to do anything else, and says that the salon didn't have any good working flat irons for my hair.  Ever since then my hair hasn't been the same.  I believe some white chicks just are experienced enough with black hair, and it pains me to know that.  But people only specialize in what they're used to. --If you can find a white girl, black man, chinese woman, or northwestern donkey that can do your hair perfectly, who cares what color they are, they know how to make you look beautiful.  The only thing I recommend is to make sure your paying attention when you get in that chair if you aren't familiar with their work.  If you notice anything really wrong, request the manager, and never go back again.

I agree with Taggi... you can end up with a "tore up" hair from anyone.  I try not to judge people hair skills by race...either way no one is touching mine lol. Never have ( well until the age of 16/17 and never will)

Obviously she doesn't know how to cut "Black" hair wet.  It is a method that mostly master stylist can do.  You should have stopped her right then and there and demanded that it should be cut dry.

All they need is practice.  Not everyone would get it right the first time.  Heck not everyone's is the same, hence the different relaxers that is available.
