It's a deep treatment you do before washing your hair. You can use anything like shea butter, olive oil, honey added to any of these things or conditioner, or an actual deep conditioner. You apply them to dry hair or sometimes I might wet my hands and run them through my hair just to make it easier to apply it. Then you let it sit for a while and shampoo it out. You get the same benifits of doing the treatment after you wash your hair but this protects your hair from the shampoo and it acts as an additional conditioner.
Type: 3c/4a Natural
Current Length: 6"
Goal: Healthy, tip of nose /neck/shoulder length hair.

I thought a pre-poo was to combat the harsh shampoo that strips your hair of its natural oil.

I love the way my hair looks and feel when I do a pre-poo. So soft and it holds moisture longer. IMO Olive oil is the best.

ITA with Layla.  I mostly do them because they help detangle my hair during the washing process.  I use whatever I have on hand, castor oil, evoo, shea butter, cholesterol, Pantene pre-poo treatment.

I usually use extra virgin olive oil with a touch of castor oil.  I apply this mix (warmed, not hot) on my scalp and massage it from roots to tips.  Then I sit under a warm (not hot) dryer for about 15 minutes.  Then I shampoo with my Nexxus shampoo.

For me, it helps with the dry and tight scalp scalp, and when I add a few drops of tea tree oil, it helps with a itchy scalp.  It also helps elasticity with my hair.
