QuoteReplyTopic: Hair Color DISASTER! Please help!! Posted: April 04 2006 at 12:52pm
Someone, Anyone, Please help! Ok, so this is a bit of a story. I naturally light/med. brown hair. I decided to go VERY blonde, which was a headache to begin with. I got it professionally done, which is fine, then wanted to go back to my natural color a little bit later. So, I did the odvious thing, I bought a light brown hair color from the store... and thought it would just COVER the blonde. Well, it did, for about 2 weeks, then washed out. SO I got it professionally colored again, to a light brown. Same story, looked great for a bit, then washed out. So then I got the genious idea to go light again since I could not darken my hair. It turned out this really wierd red/orange color. So, I go to Sally's beauty store, they give me a dark hair color, and it looks great.... then WASHES OUT! THEN, I get advice to put red in my hair so it can hold pigment, then put the dark color on.... did not do a thing!! My roots and halfway down are red/orange..... and my ends are ashy. 2 diff colors! I dont want to go spend a million doloors at the salon, any suggestions? I promise if I can just get a light brown color that will STAY, I will never touch my hair again!! Please help me! ASAP! Thank you.
Your hair is damaged - the chemical process from brown to blonde has
blown open the hair shaft and it can no longer hold colour well.
Your hair is missing vital proteins, and so what you need to do before
anything is use protein treatments and intensive conditioners to
improve the hair's state. There are many products out there to
replenish damaged hair, and it will take a while for your hair to be
able to suck up the colour again.
How long ago has it been since you had your hair bleached blonde?
Also, have you tried different brands of dye because some fade significantly quicker than others?

It was about a year ago I made that drastic change to blonde. My hair is still very soft and doesn't seem to be in too much distress. I have tried every kind of fye I think there is. I even went to sally's, and they gave me what the ''pro's'' use, and same results. I really just want to go back to natural and be done!! Should I get my hair color stripped?? Everything I have use in the last 3 months (probably about 7 diff colors) looks good, then completely washes away and leaves me with this two-tone, weird color!! I really just want to fix once and for all, and learn my lesson! :) Thanks for posting a reply so quickly, this can be so nerve racking!

I forgot to tell you I even went to the salon! And what ever color they put in, washed out also. I got advise to put like a fire-engine red on my hair to give it pigment and put a dark color over it...and I still have un-even color, and it is not close to brown....?? So I am really at a loss... I dont know what else to do! I have been through this process for a year now! Is there really anything I can do? All advise is welcome!
You do need to spend time concentrating on looking after your hair really.
But, if you have a bit of a rainbow of colours going on in your hair I
suggest you put Colorfix on it to wash away the permanent dye and leave
you with a cleaner base to dye over with again. This will
probably increase the porousity of your hair too, or it did with me -
big time. (I actually have the opposite problem to you, where
everything I put on my hair goes almost black, even if it's a light
colour!)
So, you can try this, as well as really conditioning and babying your
hair. Colofix is a very gentle colour remover, so it won't make
your hair much different. Then, dye over with a colour you want
(please make sure to test strand because it might be darker than you
want, and you may need a lighter shade) and hopefully it'll start
holding more colour. Maybe experiment with the times in which you
leave the colour on for in test strands to get the best result.
Whatever you do, don't keep panicing and splashing loads more dye on if
it still washes out...it's because your hair is damaged and more dye
will only damage it more and build up a mucky colour.

You need to go to a professional. Don't try to fix the problem yourself, and don't keep adding color. Color won't lift color. It seems to me that you or whoever is using demi color. Permanent color will not wash out. Don't just pick any salon. Ask around and get a stylists name who they think is very good. Alot of times just because someone tells you they went here or they went there and love their hair, doesn't mean that you will get the same person. You wouldn't believe how many stylist there are in salons right now that has very little experience. Good Luck.
How do you get to where your going if you don't know how to get there??????

Ok... so I am getting an idea.... (!) Is it a good idea to do 'Colorfix' before I go to my appt?? I am thinking it would remove some of the previous colors and dyes I have used before.... and leave me with not so much a clean slate, but a better one for the stylist. If I am going to spend some money, I want to make sure it works, and it will LAST! What do you think???

Can I get that at Sally's?? Ok, so its not such a crazy idea to ''preoare'' myself before I go to the salon right? I'm thinking Colorfix, and I will take you advise for this Aphogee treatment. Is this a conditioner?? Ok so I am NOT crazy!?
Another good product to even out porosity is Schwarzkopf's BonaKay
Porousity Spray, so when your hair is up to colouring if you go to a
salon or DIY spray hair evenly before any colourants.
I would not touch my at hair at home go see a professional you are
there & if anything goes wrong at least you are at a place that
potentially can fix any problems.
