QuoteReplyTopic: highlights taking over Posted: April 13 2006 at 6:44pm
I've been highlighting my hair which is naturally a dark brown for awhile, and I have an appointment w/my colorist on May 5th to have it highlighted again since I have major roots right now. My question is, the highlights seem to be taking over and I am afraid when I get it highlighted again my hair will be too light all over. Can I dye my hair it's natural color myself and then start from scratch with highlights? Or is it too late since the appointment is in 3 weeks? I have naturally curly hair, so I don't want to damage it and have it be a frizzy mess.

Years ago I had a similar problem with too many highlights put in my hair over time. The stylist added lowlights (same small sections of hair like highlights only applying a darker color - more your natural color or perhaps a shade lighter) while also doing some highlights. Adding back in some darker section made my hair have more "dimension" or "depth" -- whatever we might call it. The result was my hair looked highlighted again -- rather than an "all-over" color that had developed over time with all the highlights. See what your stylist recommends. Best of luck. Maria

If you want ..instead of dying your hair completely, they have products which instead of highlights, it adds lowlights. (which not lightens, but adds darker color/pieces)
I'd tell you the name and brand, but I completely forgot. I know they are sold at Walmart though. If I find them, I'll post again.

Custom Effects by Revlon ..they have some that adds lowlights and some that highlights, but click on that and check some of them out. I didn't exactly know what your current color was, so I didn't want to post a picture of one box.
