Hi

I had my hair cut and styled two days ago... and it was washed with shampoo twice and then conditioned.... and then before the wet cut was done.. this horrible stuff was sprayed on it....

once cut it was then blow dried and straightened with GHDs...

and looked really nice and was smooth and could be moulded how i wanted since.....

but ive just washed it today... twice with shampoo then conditioner, blow dried and then straightened..... but is a lot more fluffy and rougher feeling than when washed at the salon and can see each individual hair more as if it was static... and is more bouncy which isnt what i wanted....

is it like this because im not using the same shampoo/conditioner as in the salon.... or that i'm not using GHD straighteners, but just normal ones??

or maybe its the spray they used before being cut which made it better... although i have no idea what that was though..

does anyone have any ideas what i should do/change?

cheers

sorry if it sounds a silly question btw! but i think the washing/straightening stage somewhere is why i cant get it to look like when in the salon

Actually I think it's probably just because hairdressers are absolutely amazing at blowdrying.  You can improve your own technique by practising...practice makes perfect, but remember that any heat styling is damaging to your hair.

Are you using any products between conditioning and styling?  I would strongly recommend that you use something to protect your hair from the heat of the hairdryer and straighteners.  Many of the heat protective products are designed for straight hair and give a sleek effect.  You may also wish to apply a separate, specific product for reducing frizz and making your hair smoother and more like the salon finish.  You could go back to the salon and ask what was sprayed on to your hair before it was cut, (although you said that it was 'horrible stuff'...why is that?  It sounds like this is what helped the stylist to achieve your look).

Are your straighteners ceramic?  If so, I'm sure they will do pretty much the same job as GHDs and I wouldn't bother forking out for new ones.  If not, I recommend the Remington Solid Ceramics (not Wet 2 Straight!) as they're cheap, but very effective.

Lastly, if your hair is 'fluffy' after washing, it could be because it still has shampoo and / or conditioner in it.  Try giving it an extra rinse at the end...using cool water will also increase shine and reduce frizz.

Good luck - hope you can achieve the look you're after!

thanks very much for the reply!

i meant horrible, as in the smell ... it was quite strong.. maybe just some form of hair spray although i have no idea what it did, or why was put on between washing and cutting!

i've lost the kinda smooth choppy look round the sides.. since washing it etc. whereas it now looks bushier and thicker

yes maybe it could be blowdrying

If I were you, I would go back to the salon and ask what the horrible smelling styling product was.  If you don't like the smell, don't buy it, but note the name and then post on here, because someone is sure to know of an alternative product that has the same effect (without the smell!)

I imagine that this product, whatever it was, is something designed to reduce the 'bushiness' you are now experiencing without it.
