QuoteReplyTopic: Bleach previously perm-straightened hair? Posted: April 24 2006 at 9:19am
Last year in early October I had my hair professionally chemically straightened. It was a Japanese straightening system, and was done by a stylist in a small Asian salon with a ton of experience doing straightening. It came out really well.
Right now my hair is a very warm, medium brown. Naturally it is a very dark, very ashy blonde. It was last colored in early January this year.
My question is, is it possible to have my hair bleached to a pale blonde color all around (not just highlights)? I like the brown that it is right now, but I am not crazy about it and I have always liked pale/light blondes and I think I would look really good with it. I have heard that if your hair was ever previously straightened you should NOT bleach it because it can't take the stress. However, my straightening was done very well and I have not had any breakage over what my hair has always done, and does not feel overly dry or over-treated.
I know I should ask a color expert in a salon, I'm just curious if anyone here has any input before I do so. Thanks!
I can't speak for the Japenese straightening, but I had my hair straightened last July with the Bio Ionic system at a salon and have had my hair highlighted four times since then with bleach. I have not had any real problems to speak of. My hair is a little on the dry side and the ends get fuzzy pretty fast, so I have to have regular trims to keep my hair nice. My advice is grow your hair out before you even think about bleaching. Bleach can very damaging on virgin hair and even worse on chemically treated hair. So grow it or cut it before even thinking about bleaching.
