How long before coloring hair again

How long do I have to wait before coloring my hair again? Is there something I should use to take the color out to start over or should I just re-color it on top? Thanks.

Use Colorfix (or similar) from Sally's to remove the permanent dye (if it was permanent).  You can recolor immediately after using Colorfix, but I'd be careful what color you use so you won't get a funky color.  What's your situation (natural and beginning haircolor, dyed color, how often have you dyed, etc)?

I dyed my natural hair (light ashy brown) to a "medium intense auburn". It turned basically purple. I was looking for more of a red (like on the show "OC", julie cooper's hair color or lindsey lohans original red). I hadn't dyed my hair for at least a year. thanks for the help.
