First post!!  My hair has been lightened to a light golden blonde but I want to go darker.  I've heard that you have to do this in steps.  What do I need to do first?  I don't have the money to go to a salon so I want to do this myself.  I also don't have a Sally's beauty supply anywhere close to me.

  Hi

You will have to put the red tones back into your hair first. If you just try to cover the blonde with the brown you could end up with a nasty shade of Khaki. When I have done this in the past I have used an auburn colour to replace the red first but have only towel dried it and not rinsed it out, I have then placed a brown straight over this and it has been fine but I have no idea if this would work for everyone so I would maybe take further advice on this. You could also buy a red filler which does the same thing or if your still in doubt....go to a salon and have it done professionally. What ever you decide
Good Luck

You can use the auburn color the same way you would use a protein filler, like the poster above said. I didn't add the developer. I read just to use the color tube without the developer. I left this on for a bit, then left it and added my brown color in semi-permanent(with the developer). Semi is a good idea because you are depositing color, so you don't want the lightening effect of permanent. Your hair is porous, and believe it or not, semipermanent will "stick" much better than permanent color. My color turned out too dark, but ultimately faded to a more natural shade. This lasted me until my natural color had grown back in all the way, and I had NO roots! As a natural brunette with bleached-blonde hair, roots were driving me nuts.

after bleaching my dark hair blonde, the maintenance is
beginning to get to me... let us know what products and
techniques you end up using and how it goes. Good luck!
