QuoteReplyTopic: Why is it that people with jacked up hair Posted: May 02 2006 at 7:47pm
are always telling me what I should do with my hair????????? For example ever since Ive joined the hair boards Ive been doing conditioner washes, moisturing better, deep conditioning once a week, etc. My friend seems to think Im crazy and tells me that it is bad for people to wash their hair once a week. She also tells me that it is bad to leave a conditioner on for too long, but I only leave it on for 45mins. Yet she tells me it is so bad for the hair but never has a reason as to why it is bad for the hair. You would think her hair is long, thick, and flowing, but it is dry, short, and looks like someone ran throught it with a chainsaw. Why cant people just keep thier comments to themselves ???? Because of me taking care of my hair it has grown from neck length to almost bra strap length and she doesnt seem to realize that.

Amen! i remember in highschool the main girl who would remind me that it was time for a relaxer usually had the shortest dryest nastiest looking hair you can imagine...they would say "you wash your hair once a week girl you think you are white"
I wonder why it is always like that. I wish people would leave folks alone about their hair when their hair is super messed up. If they knew so much, perhaps their hair wouldn't be in such bad condition.

OMG...so I'm not the only one who ran across someone like this?
When I was in high school, I washed my hair 2-3 times a week and it was all natural.
A girl with EXTREMELY short hair (that wasn't the problem with it) that was very dry and had caked on gel and no hair at the temples (those were the problems) and wasn't even long enough to use a curling iron asked me how often I washed my hair because it was Wednesday and my hair was damp. When I told her, she said, "girl, you better starting washing your hair once a month like I do." I just rolled my eyes and thought to myself, "yeah, so it can look like yours". LOL
She also told me that I need a perm because my hair wouldn't grow if it didn't have a perm! LOL
Hair type: who knows?
Length: 23 inches as of 3/10/06
MY HAIR IS OFFICIALLY BRA STRAP LENGTH!!
Goal: Waist Length, which is only 30 inches so
ADVISE ME ON HOW TO GET JUST 7 MORE INCHES OF GROWTH!

Its funny because she is the same person who always comments on how nice my hair looks yet deep conditioning and washing once a week is supposed to be bad for the hair. It doesnt make sense!!!!!!!

I would have said it to her too! It is obvious and rude/mean or not, I like to bring out the obvious things to those who don't have enough sense to see it for themselves. Then maybe they can have a new perspective on things.

I guess the same reason why some overweight women feel compelled to tell folks that regular pop/soda is "fattening" and criticize everything a person eats yet they drink diet soda with a hoagie. Not trying to be mean but boggles my mind sometimes. I don't bother to tell folks my hair routine or what I do. Not trying to be secretive but some folks may think my routine is a bit "out" there.

LOL, this topic was hilarious. But its so true! After I told my one of my friends I was researching how to grow out my hair and one of the things I learned was that it was okay to wash your hair everyday as long as you keep in the moisture she replied in a negative tone, about how that strips your hair and no I shouldn't be doing what is clearly written in many books. Here I was trying to share some helpful information and she just completely shut it down. But I didn't get discouraged because in what I was researching it stated many people have these misconceptions and thats the reason african-american women have the hair problems they do. I'm just glad I'm taking the time and keeping an open mind to the truth
Thats exactly why I dont even bother to tell others about what im doing to my hair anymore or that Im on hair forums because I know they will look at me like . I hate the fact that some people are not open to learning new things and are so quick to reject things that they have not experienced or know nothing about.
Well I've seen hairstylists with jacked up hair too...but people still go to them. Not sure why. You really just have to let people roll off your shoulder or you would be jacked up like them.
loveyaforever: is that your your hair in the avatar pic? its soo PRETTY!!!!
Anyways back on subject; Miri told me when she had her hair all done up in braids and this girl with jacked up hair had the nerve to critize her hairstyle

LOL, I have a friend who is like that, she is always trying to tell me what to do to my hair. Her hair is so unhealthy. My hair is thriving, so I do not pay her any attention. There are so many knowledgeable ladies on the hair boards, and when they speak, I listen and get good results.
