4oz = BIG hair!

Ok ladies, any suggestions would be great~

Last week I did my first ever install.  I'd post pics, but I don't have a digital camera:-(  I pretipped my own plastikhaar (I had a wedding last weekend-couldn't wait for wefts) and installed with protac.  I installed 3 rows with a few small pieces around the crown and sides for blending.  I cut & blended it myself and it looked awesome! 

The only problem is that I have a VERY small head.  I used maybe 4 oz at the most (1 full bag and a little of another for highlights minus what I lost pretipping) and my hair was HUGE!  My ponytail was 3.5 inches in diameter. 

It looked great but I'm really not wanting big hair.  I took it out last night and I'm planning to reinstall it this week but I'm concerned about blending it with my own hair.  My own hair is blunt cut about 3 inches shy of my brastrap and is baby fine.  Do you have any tips that will help it blend well when using less hair?  I'm thinking that I will do more rows with less hair on each one.  So instead of 3 thick rows, maybe 5 thinner rows. 

What do you think?  What type of placement will blend well with less extension hair?
