QuoteReplyTopic: Lost my curls! Has this happened to you? Posted: May 08 2006 at 2:27pm
I have naturally curly hair (think ringlets, spiral curls) and have been using the Sedu flat iron to straighten by hair when I wash it once a week since November. I do have to touch up daily in the morning when I wake up.
Since then, I have DCL (DRASTIC CURL LOSS) and thought at first that this might be due to my hormone problems and thyroid disease. Just like a woman's hair may go straight after she gets pregnant when her hair was curly before hand or vice versa.
I condition and protect my hair with good, expensive products, but my hair is a combo of wavy AND stick straight all over. I can no longer wear my hair natural curly or wash and go.
ALl this time I wnated straight hair and now I hate it. Does anyone have experience with this?

Well I use the Sedu as well, and I wish my hair would naturally get straighter, but it hasn't LOL. However, I do know someone who claims to have the same thing happened to her. After a year of flat ironing, her hair went from curly, to slightly wavebie. So I guess it can happen.
Oh God, please let it happen to me!

You'll regret that if it happens. I know a couple of people who had curlier hair than mine. They straightened it so much it lost its curl and they regretted it. And it is not a good thing if she lost her curls like that. It means her hair is damaged. Her curls will come back only if she quits flat ironing it for a long time and learns to take better care of it. I would suggest you learn to work with your curls instead of fighting them. Curly hair doesn't have to be "unmanageable". I would suggest you visit www.naturallycurly.com.
DANGER! I drive like you do.

Also hair can naturally go straighter, but if it becomes straighter because you flat ironed it so much, it's because the hair is badly damaged. Thats not a natural change.

Yes I know that. I was just kidding. Believe me I know alot about hair. After many many years of suffering LOL, I can say I have beautiful hair. No complaints. I have visited naturallycurly.com, just out of curiosity though, I only wear my hair curly one week out of the month, which is the week I let my hair rest. I do lots of treatments, deep conditioners, trim every 8 weeks and all that stuff. I'm 31, and been blow drying my hair since I was 12, and have been using a flat iron for 2 years now. But the care I put into my hair is extreme. So I don't have any split ends, breakage, dryness, hair loss. And my hair is definitly any less curlie. Exept for when I texturize it with a thio relaxer (Rusk radical anticurl) which I usually do in the summer or when I travel to the caribean, because the humidity is so high.
I thank you for the advice and concern though. That is very nice of you.
Good luck and great hair.

Miri loses her curls after we braid it for summer(think braids all over the place) and after much conditioning and scrunching it comes back a little but really all that can fix it is time. In your case I urge you to stop straighting and check your products: do they contain the following; cones, sulfates, ammonium, petroleum, mineral oil,or sodium, if they do throw them away. I find that cones depend for each person but usually curly heads don't fare well with because of the clarifying needed which wreaks havoc on curls.May your hair and you feel better soon.
