QuoteReplyTopic: Can I highlight colored hair???(pics) Posted: May 09 2006 at 8:18am
Since my last post to you I have lightened my hair again with a soap cap in hopes that it would get ride of some of the yellow(on the advice of a hair salon and after doing a strand test). It did not get rid of the yellow and I am stuck with a very unnatural hair color(picture below).
I have placed a "before" picture of me in this post(I am the blonde in the picture). This is my natural color and I really only wanted it a shade lighter so that it would be brighter.....I know now that I should have just highlighted it! Is it possible that I could still go back to my natural color and then highlight that...taking into consideration what has already been done to my hair. If you think it is possible could you tell me what colors I would need based on what my natural color was in this picture? I'm not having any luck matching it with any colors in the store.
Also, do you think it's possible to mix the colors to get a lighter or darker shade?
Thank you!
Robin
My natural color(I'm on the left).
Now: After the Ultra Light Sun Blonde by Revlon and after the soap cap(bleach mixed with shampoo - set for 30 minutes)
You need a toner to make the color look more natural. If you live in the U.S. you can go to Sally's (or a different beauty supply store) and get a toner. When choosing a toner, just remember that a purple base will remove the yellow, giving you a more neutral result. There should be a swatches or you can look online (maybe at the wella or clairol professional sites) to see the toners available.
Thanks! I have already made an appt this morning (I'm in Germany-Central European Time) to get a toner put on my hair at the salon. I'm really afraid to do anything else to it myself! I'll update you on the results....you've been very helpful.
Robin
PS.....Do you think it would look more natural if I got a few low lights put in? I don't want it to look dark just more natural.

I don't think it looks so bad, as is, myself. I would just get the toner and NOT the lowlights. I am all blonde and when I got lowlights I regretted it. There's nothing wrong with getting lowlights -- it just seems like you want and like being a blonde -- obviously -- that's why you tried to go lighter. So anyway, how'd it turn out?
