I just bought rods for a spiral curl look for my hair, the rods are the orange ones right before the big green ones. I am scared to do it because I don't want it to come out bad bu I cannot afford the beautysalon, so does anyone have any tips on how to do it without looking bad? Or should I get a doll and practice first before messing up my own head?

i have read that to create a spiral set w/ rollers you should twist and slant the roller dont roll them in straight.  start at the tips, twist hair at mid section and clip on roller on a slanted angle. try it out and see dont be scurred.  if your hair is at shoulder or chin lenght try bantu knots for setting.
But keep on trying different things.

Also use end papers with the rods. WHen rolling try to roll smooth and tight but not too tight though in a sprial formation I guess you can say. Let it set and once dry (make sure it is completely dry) unroll in a sprial formation and do not pull, be gentle and it should come out fine. If this is your first time be patient it may take a few times to get the technique down pack. HTH
BTW: Yeah you can always practice on a dolls head before attempting on your hair. Practice makes perfect
