Heyho...

There's a new salon in town just opened and it looks very professional and reasonably priced - it uses Fudge and Joico products.  I've not been to a salon for about 2 years because my local one is appauling (they cut everyone's hair default like robots and the colours are wishy-washy) and I can't do it on my own anymore, so I wanted to try it out.

Now...my hair is shoulder length, currently very dark brown, and I have naturally light blonde hair.  I bleached it about 8 months ago to get black permanent dye out, but the bleach will be about 8 inches down my head now.  I've also used Colorfix twice within the last 3 months.  However, my hair is strong and shiny still.

I wondered how easy it would be for a professional colourist to bleach my hair and get it a rich dark red.  Like this http://www.hairresources.com/images/sce/Medhair205.jpg
How damaging would it be?

Than I want it cut a bit shorter...with loads more short layers than I have....so I can poof it out a bit.  Like this

At the moment it's very flat and boring.

What do you think?  Any suggestions?

Bleaching again is getting into the risky zone if you want to keep any of the previously bleached hair.  If you'll get it cut off, thats less of a problem.

How about if you have them Colorfix it to try to remove as much of the dark color as possible (or you do it since you've done it before).  You'd only have to get it to orange and it would be easy for them to put dark red.

If you bleach again and go too light (to yellow) not only will it be very damaging to the bleached parts, your hair will be more porous and it may be difficult to keep red in it.  (At least, back when I did red, it was hard to keep it in and looking good for more than 2 weeks without it going dishwater red, I'd hope they made some technical progress on the dyes since then, but just in case.  If you bleach to yellow then go red, you may find it fades to light peach within a few weeks, so it would be better if you could avoid bleach before doing it).

This is my problem - Colorfix only gets my hair down 1-2 levels....it won't go as far as orange....even if I do it twice and apply heat.  My hair has too much dark dye build-up.

I thought if it was bleached to an orange (which is what I've done myself before) by a professional then it wouldn't be uneven or fade too quickly.  My hair is dark brown on the lengths, and the roots are slightly lighter because they just won't take.  I can't cope with it how it is.

I've just bought some K-Pak reconstrutor which should be good for my hair and it feels absolutely fine.

When you say bleach over bleach is dangerous territory...what do you mean?  I thought people bleached over bleach all the time if they have bleached blonde hair for example?

That's true.  I was thinking you'd bleached it white in the past, then went dark and wanted to bleach again.  I see in your post above you said you only bleached to remove dark dye so you probably didn't go that light.  My mistake.  As long as you/they test strand so you can see if you hit the breaking point in advance, you should be fine just bleaching to orange since you say your hair feels okay.  Its possible a pro can keep it from going uneven since they can at least see better what's going on back there, just warn them in advance of what you've done to the lengths and not done to the roots so they can keep an eye out for it.

Did you want it just like the photo you posted, or all burgundy?  Her hair looks to me like its only burgundy on the top and dark like yours on the lower layers.  To look like hers you'd only need a thin top layer done anyway.

Ah I didn't think about that.  I thought it was just the light in the photo...but I'm not sure now.  I'd like my hair all one colour so then it's easier to keep up...I'm undecided between dark red or dark purpley red.  I guess I'd have to see what selection they have at the salon.

Thanks so much for all the help Susan Clap  I'll keep you updated.
