    Posted: May 01 2000 at 10:16am
I just received the shortest haircut of my life. I had to get my hair cut so short because a prior stylist chopped it up really bad. Before the "chop" I had shoulder length hair and was trying to grow it into a bob, now it is to the middle of my ears. The cut isn't bad, it's the length I'm having problems with. Anyway, I have been thinking about getting extensions because I don't think I can live with my hair for as long as it will take to grow it. How long does your hair have to be before you can get extensions? What are your feelings about the glue in kind? I know a lady who had them and she made it sound like all she did was go to her stylist every eight weeks for a trim until her hair grew out. She never mentioned any type of maintence with these. It sounded like she really liked them. Is there damage cause to the hair with these type of extensions. My hair in the back is probably 1 1/2 inches in length. Would this be enough length to have the extensions glued in? And my biggest question is, would they look natural?

Thanks for any advice that you can give me.

I was going to have extensions put in my hair for the same reason you are -- bad haircut that was cut too short.  My stylist recommended that I *not* do it.  (Odd considering that she could make a lot of money off of me for it, but I digress).

1. very expensive, even for every 8 weeks.

2. My hair grows really fast so I would have to go in every 4 weeks to have them redone - 2x as much $ as the average person.

3.  My scalp is sensitive so the glue may cause problems.

4.  Special washing instructions/shampoo I really didn't want to deal with (my determination).

So to me it wasnt' worth the hassle.

Get clip-in extentions. Look very real, and easy to maintain, and don`t ruin your hair, not expensive!

That`s a link to Sally`s online site with Revlon clip-in extensions. In the stores they`re usually about $25-$30, which is fairly reasonable. You can get the kind that clip in just like a ponytail, and they have about eight different shades in curly, wavy and straight. Also, Target has started selling some Scunci clip in ponytails for a lot less and they don`t look bad. If you can pull your hair back with some gel and hair spray these might work for you! Good luck :-)
