I have medium brown hair w/ some reddish and blondish highlights (natural). I want to use something that will intensify my highlights but wont look unnatural. I'm 14 and my mom doesnt approve of dying your hair. Will Sun-In help me achieve natural looking highlights, or will it not work at all on my dark hair? Does it damage your hair? Thanks.
I used sun in in the 80s/90s, you can't control the amount of lightening. It has peroxide in it and will continue to lighten. My hair ended up like straw after one summer and looked very brassy and gross. I am a dark blonde with gold highlights and will never put sun in on my hair again.
I too had a mother that would not allow me to dye my hair...so off I trotted to buy some sun-in...she would never know - would she?
Well, she sure did when my healty, nice medium brown hair turned a disgusting copper colour and turned to straw! No amount of conditioning product could make it better...
A better way to have subtle highlights without bleaching is to use a mixture of freshly squeezed lemon juice and water. The more lemon juice vs. water, the more it will help add highlights. This will just help the sun do a better job of naturally highlighting. Just pour the mixture over your hair or spritz on a large amount until your hair is saturated. Have fun- this is one of my favorite things to do when I lay out.
thanks so much for warning me, now i guess im not going to go through with that idea. but is there any other way i can get those natural looking highlights without my mom really noticing?

You're right! Sorry, I forgot to mention that I only do this once or twice to achieve the desired highlights. I also use a leave-on conditioner before and wash and condition after. As with anything else, use sparingly. It shouldn't do the damage that sun-in would do though.
DO NOT USE SUN IN I KNOW FOR A FACT ONCE YOU PUT IT IN YOUR HAIR THERE IS NO STOPPING THE PROCESS OF THE SUN IN SO EVERY TIME YOU GO IN THE SUN IT WILL GET LIGHTER AND YOUR HAIR WILL BE VERY DAMAGED IT WILL LOOK LIKE STRAW FROM A 7 YEAR EXPERIENED HAIR DRESSER
no, no ,no please, please dont use sun in. Sun-in will bring up your contributing pigment with brown hair that means you will end up with orange. please trust me . Sun-in is meant for natural blondes only. SusieQ ( almost a hairdresser)
