QuoteReplyTopic: help my hair please! pics! Posted: June 28 2006 at 2:48pm
hello, when i was a kid, i used to have pretty thick, normal hair like all one length and was straight, now i bought myself a
hairstraightener and i use it every second day, and my hair is in layers, and it's so nice when straightened, but everytime
after i take a shower, i just use the fructis shampoo and conditioner, and after a while after it's dry, my hair would go
crazy! like iunno it's brittle, dried, wavy (flips out at the ends, hair at all different directions), and poofy. there are
probably factors that made my hair like this, like: - layers? - hair straightening? - not good shampoo/conditioner? i dont know, but it's so thick also, and i'm going camping during the summer, and i don't want to get my hair wet by
swimming, cuz it will go crazy and i don't want people seeing it. is there any products or methods to get my hair back to
where it was when i was a kid, or just maintain it, to not look that crazy? btw the pics i have below came from a bad quality webcam other than the good pic heh.... ok thanks :)
yesterday i washed my hair, and i put a lot of conditioner, and didn't dry my hair (just removed excess water) ..and i think it kind of went kind of small which is good, and yeah.. i think i should use a deep conditioner
ok thanks! :)
help me with my hair please! :)

If you are using heat of your hair it will cause damage; that cannot be avoided. To help use deep conditioning treatments such as Redken Allsoft or another brand to help put moisture back into your hair. Or you could always make your own deep conditioner....such as warm up some olive oil and honey and then put it on your hair, wrap with a towl for 30 minutes and rinse out. There are several other homemade treatments you can do as well.
If you can, try going without the heat for a while and see if your hair gets better.

I know EXACTLY how annoying this is! After washing and drying my hair it's just POOF and looks like it's trying to imitate an afro. I have layers too and I think this is partly the problem: the layers are shorter and so there isn't so much weight to pull them down and keep them under control. I only wash my hair at night now, because I can tie it up with several hair bands and hair clips and then while I sleep on it over night it straightens out and calms down. Maybe you could give this a try?
Maybe I'm wrong, but it sounds like you're trying to fight the natural texture of your hair. When you say that you bought a hairstraightener kit, does it use heat or chemicals? Either way, each one of them will affect the hair. Have you ever tried not straightening it? If you don't like the way it looks, maybe you could get some suggestions from a stylist on different styles that would make the most of your texture.
Also, just from personal experience, we always think our own hair looks much worse than anyone else does! I really wouldn't worry about how your hair looks after you've gone swimming. If it really bothers you that much, how about wearing a bandana or scarf? Not only would it cover the hair, but it would give you a "natural" straightener without any heat or chemicals!

When I stopped straightening, blow drying and washing my hair with chemical shampoos like Fructis, my hair got much healthier, but it does take some patience. I agree with anne6000, you are fighting the natural texture of your hair. If you continue down that path, it will only get worse (I know from experience). You have pretty hair, and its a pretty color. Just go with what you have for awhile and see if you can learn to love it.
