QuoteReplyTopic: Hair breaking off! Help! Posted: November 28 2002 at 4:45pm
Ok... I`m back... haven`t talked to you all in quite some time. Anyways... I made the giant leap today and got my hair back to brown. They didn`t dye over my healthy regrowth which is about 7 inches. The bottom part of my hair had been blonde. I had made it a whole year without dying, or bleaching. GO ME! Anyways.. I THINK I like this brown.. I`m not sure. Its kind of like a light brown. Problem is.. my hair is kind of damaged at the ends. Its gotten a little longer.. but not much. I bought some RedKen color stay shampoo and conditioner. Underneath my hair is where its broken off and I`m going for a trim tomorrow. See.. the underneath part is so broken off that you can tell a major difference in length and I`m trying on concentrating on getting that back healthy. I have no idea why its breaking off though. It`s rare I wear my hair up and I never wear necklaces. So what could be causing this??? Any help?? Please!

Story sounds very familiar! I pretty much went through the same ordeal! You`re doing the right thing by going for a trim. Once your hair is back to healthy, it is much easier to grow it out long! As far as the dying goes, I found a truely conditioning colour from Sallys Beauty Supply that helped match my already coloured hair with my natural new growth. Its called Radiance by Clarol. Its a no lift colour with an emphasis on conditioning with Wheat proteins and amino acids. My hair went from rough and course to slinky, shiny and with an unreal amount of bounce and swing. The best thing is it does not change your natural colour as it is a semi-perm. So I continue to get my trims which take off the old perm colour, and when I have to colour to hide my roots, I use the Radiance! Then when all the perm colour is gone, I will just let the semi-perm fade! The trick is to not run the colour all the way through your hair every time. Otherwise it will deposit/stain your hair permanently. Best to just use it all over once or twice and then to just touch up the roots as needed. Hope this helped. :-)

Oh... you asked about the breakage as well... Well, my first thought would be because you had once lifted your hair to blonde which is so damaging! Didnt you ever notice how the only people who seem to have healthy hair that has been dyed blonde are those with shorter hair? Very rarely do you ever see HEALTHY long hair that has been dyed or coloured. Changing your hair permanently with chemicals, especially bleaching, is one of the worst things you could do! And this is not me saying that... but something I have been told by one of the top colourists in London... and some magazines say, the world! He said to treat your hair like fine silk. The less you do to it the better.
