Everyone always trys to put a twist on relaxed hair. I've gone natural three times in my life and I'm only 19. Each time it was far too much work, why cant anyone just find healthier styles for relaxed hair instead of trying to make things difficult and revort people to their puffy fros?

That's good for you. I am sorry but I would rather deal with my puffy fro rather than worrying if my hair is going to fall out or break off every time I get a touch up, and those scalp burns, the smell yuck! It's easier for me this way and my hair is thriving. If you hair is healthy and strong with a relaxer then that's fine. But most of the people with relaxers hair is tow up or it won't grow because of breakage. I think going natural is a good way for women to get their hair back into shape and then they can decide if they want to relax and educate themselves on how to keep it long strong and healthy.
Hair Type: 4a/3c Natural
Hair Length: Mid Back (growing out Layers)
Hair Goal: Long Layered Waist length/ Super Healthy!

I think whatever works for that particular individual is fine, as long as you are happy with your hair that is all that matters. I do believe hair is hair and it can all get damaged you just have to take the responsibility to take care of your hair whether it's relaxed or natural. I don't think one is better than the other. Just be happy and have a BLESS DAY!!!

Good to hear that you are happy with your choice.  I hope everyone on here makes the choices that suites them best. Everyone on here seem to be pretty supportive of one another, don't recall viewing posts of people "reverting" anyone to a "puffy fro".

Hey that's great that you like the straight/relaxed style for your hair.  Some people like it and it's perfectly okay because hey!  It's your hair so do what you wanna do.  I used to love my hair straightened and no, I'm not going to say it didn't look good cuz it looked hella good.  But now I guess you can say I've been "reverted" because I'm going natural, honey!   And you know what?  That's perfectly okay too.  So go ahead and rock it da way you want to.  And props to my sistas who are holdin' it down the natural way...it takes guts to make that transition!

So ... going natural was "far too much work," but healthy styles for relaxed hair is "making things difficult?"  Pardon me, I'm going to laugh.

What sites were you going to that made things so difficult?  Because I agree with an earlier poster that you weren't here.

I don't recall any posts like that here either.  Everyone is supportive here.....you must be referring to a different forum because I see you just joined here in June.

There are many relaxed ladies here as well as natural and everyone gets along fine.  No one tries to make one seem better than the other because it is all a personal choice.  I have seen many relaxed ladies with very long healthy hair.  It is possible to have healthy relaxed hair as long as you're willing to do your research and learn.  Also, natural hair isn't just limited to the "puffy fro".  There are many other beautiful natural styles if you so choose.  Welcome to the board.

Learn the best way to take care of the type of hair you have. Do your research and your hair will look just as good as others who truly care about the health of their hair whether natural, relaxed, jerry curled , whatever!

I know how to take care of my relaxed hair, the point is that it took so much research, which I did. Other than books I read and so forth there wasn't anyone explaining how you can keep relaxed hair healthy. My natural hair is just to much work for me, I can't keep up with it although I know how to,you feel! Just felt I had to ease you from your uncontrollable laughter.

Sorry for putting unjustified, random talk on this site. I guess I wasn't really talking about everyone, it's just that everyone is trying to get in touch with their true self and going natural is just more popular in the sense that it's true. I would go natural only I don't have that kind of commitment right now. My hair is not hard and nappy, but it's uncontrollable in it's natural state. In the future though I'm gonna get it together

It's all good.  It's ok to be relaxed and yes, your hair can be healthy.  You are at the right place to learn more about relaxed and natural hair.  Welcome.

I can understand what you are saying about natural hair being "difficult" to manage, especially if you aren't used to it or don't know what you are doing.  I had my moments where I longed for my relaxed, wash and go hair.  But when I see the thickness returning and my hair not shedding so much.  I'm much more comfortable with my choice to go natural.

SimpleAlex that's nice your natural so is my mom and guess what she can't grow her hair. She stopped relaxing her hair thinking it would help her hair to grow longer but I cut my hair after hers, and I still relax it, and now my hair is longer than hers. It just depends on how you take care of your hair. Ever sense taking care of my hair I never receave scalp burns nor do I have breakage. I truly understand those that go natural they want long hair that doesn't break constantly, but I went natural twice and couldn't take it.
All I know is let all the relaxed and naturals spread their long hair and hit those that believed afro texture hair couldn't grow longer than a grain of rice in the face.

MY mother bids me bind my hair
With bands of rosy hue,
Tie up my sleeves with ribbons rare,
And lace my bodice blue.
