Hi Forest!

I have a question that I hope you can help me with.

My natural color is Strawberry Blonde. For eight years I have colored with different haircolors (when I touch up my roots). I started out using Clairol's "Born Blonde" and then when I started to have too white of hair (and that would happen even though I only colored my roots)I started using Clairol's "Ultimate Blonde"-a highlift blonde shade. Then I've gone on to use "Nice and Easy" Extra light blonde.
Just using these colors as a root touch up seems to balance the rest of my haircolor. Then alternately I will use the Born Blonde. I have very long hair and I was wondering if you think this is safe to continue doing, or should I just
use one color only? I already asked one stylist who was a bit concerned (this was on-line, not a personal hairstylist). I just want to see if there are various opinions on this. I take very great care of my hair. I even asked Clairol and the person seemed to not really be sure what to tell me. I can understand that because of course they want you to be cautious. Thanks for your help.

Dear Happyblonde:

You say you are using 3 different products to color your new growth.
1. Born Blonde is a semi-permanent color. It should not hurt your hair because it doesn't need a developer to work. You say that every once in a while you use this to cover all over when your hair has gotten to light. This will work.

2. The highlift blonde shade you are using probably has a 20 volume hydrogen peroxide that you mix with. This should only be used on the new growth area. If you need to refresh your ends pull the color through for a few minutes after your new growth is done.

3. Nice and Easy is also used with a developer and I know that it is usually put on all over the head and timed for about 20 minutes. I wouldn't recommend putting this color on if you can get the results you like with the high-lift blonde color and the occasional born blonde toner.

Just remember that everytime you pull color through to your ends you damage your hair a little more. Be very concientious of using professional shampooes and conditioners and you should be in good shape. Forest

Sorry, I must have worded the part about the born blonde so as not to be read correctly. I'll re-write it so as not to cause any confusion.

I actually don't use the Borne Blonde toners. I use the actual lightener-root touch ups only. Alternately when not using the Born Blonde lightener for the next touch up I use the Ultimate Blonde high lift hair shade on the roots only and when I don't use Ultimate Blonde I use the Nice and Easy #98 but only once in awhile and roots only. I never comb it through my hair, though. I was wondering now that you know that I use a bleach what you think of my
regime. Again, sorry for the confusion. Thank you for answering, though.

Thanks for your help,
Holly
