I wouldn't think so.  I have used olive oil and egg white as a deep conditioner with no ill effects.  I don't make a habit of leaving oils on my scalp though.  In fact I have pretty much replaced oil with coneson my length (not my scalp).  Though I have to be careful and watchful of buildup. HTH

I don't think it can damage your hair but if you're using it alone w/ no moisturizers it may make your hair feel dry.  Some people's hair dosen't like oils alone.  It's best to put oils over your moisturizer to seal in the moisture because oils don't moisturize your hair.

No it's a natural product it's quite safe, it may not agree with everyones hair and it may work better for you if you use in a different way to another person but it won't damage you hair.

Newbie here...

You made a really good point that I bet a lot of people didn't know.  I know I didn't!  Until I joined this website a few days ago, I didn't know that oil didn't necessarily moisturize.  That is such a crucial thing to know.  I really thought oil and moisturizers were the same thing.  I was also pretty surprised that you could use olive oil on the hair in general.

Thanks for such great tips!

Okay thanks. I was just wondering vecuase when I rubbed it thru my hands it wasnt quite as slick as oils feel. It was kinda gritty in a sense. And I was wondering if it would make your hair feel that way. Thanks!!!!!!

Yes, it can be damaging to the hair.  My stylist has always told me to use olive oil in combination with egg.  Olive oil can literally fry the hair under a hot dryer.

But isn't that more to do with how your using it than the actual product?

I agree with Ms Mocha. The actual product isn't damaging, but how you use it can cause damage. Thats with any product. Motown princess, you've gotten some good tips. Use the oil to seal in moisture and don't put on and sit under a hot dryer! Thanks for the topic cause I've learned a few things too from this

No Olive Oil alone does not ruin your hair

I would think any oil placed on your hair or body with heat added would result in a cooking effect.
