please help me! i just took the plunge and released my hair from the spell of the chemical relaxer 4 months ago. i don't hate my hair in it's coily form BUT i would love to slick it down so it can be transformed into a neo- josephine look. what products are good to slicking down this mane!? i have afro, twistoutted and puffed my hair to death. thanks in advance..boy did i ever change my hair

is there such a product to lay down or slick hair in its natural state without putting heat to it? i just want a wet look that has moisture and sheen. the closest that i seen was paul mitchel stuff but it is a tad expensive. gel always seem to be the logical answer but the gels i've chosen seem to not lay my hair down but build body like a big ol' cotton ball...you know the look of the 60's without comments of endearment these days. please help me. i love my natural hair and i refuse to go back to the conk. please help ...if possible. i only have approximately 5 and three quarters of length on my head already..i don't want to lose it. beggin' and pleadin' autumn

Here are a few things I use to slick my hair back into that wavy/smooth pony/ afro puff. Now mind you, it took me some time to train my hair to do what I want, but it does it now.
So what I do first is to wet my hair with something (either water, setting lotion, or aloe vera juice)... I use proclaim's setting lotion at the moment.
After that I slick it down first with Garnier's Soft Curl Creme (its a gooey, sticky, paste) then with ECOsyler Gel (the clear one).
Now back when I was "training" my hair to stay slicked down, I would have to tie it down with a scarf or bandanna for a few minutes.... but now it's no longer neccessary.
As you can see, I use a lot of products but it seems to work for me!

Note: when using gel, I don't recomb hair after its dried before re-wetting. Always re-wet hair first before proceding to comb the next day.
Merisit , is the Ecostyler gel moisturizing? I've been noticing it in many salons and i was never tempted to use it (since my hair was addicted to conk for that moment). ANYWAY, it appears that the bounty on my head is going to require some ingenuity on my part huh?! I have been wanting to get those pincurls and Josephine Baker style hair ever since the late 90's and reading works fromHarlem Renaissance writers. No problem baby. but as to your question about the gel.... like any other gel, its not moisturizing but it isn't as drying as most I've used. In any case, gel is gel is gel. lol

oh yeah, I forgot to add that for moisture I use Silk Elements Leave-in Conditioning Moisturizer. I Love that stuff!!!
and you might wanna try a pomade if nothing else works; pomades are suppose to be made to slick the hair down. Thats what they used back in the day I heard.

Yeah. Pomade will slick your hair down. But it leaves your hair heavy and "gunky". Try using a protein gel. But just use the gel on top of the hair and avoid putting it on the ends...
