QuoteReplyTopic: Poll: favorite drugstore brands??? Posted: June 07 2000 at 10:19am
Hey everyone,
My husband and I are trying to save up for a house and are therefore making "sacrifices" wherever we can. I decided to *temporarily* give up my $50/month Aveda habit and go with a drugstore brand (yes, I am a martyr). My sister, who has long pretty hair, swears I have finally come to my senses and insists there is no difference except $ but I can't say I agree.
I just bought thermasilk shampoo for color treated hair and finesse conditioner for color treated hair (I remember that from high school, great smell). Today was the first day I used them and my hair is surprisingly soft and shiny. What are your favorite cheapie brands?
I think I have heard so many bad things from salons about every shampoo that is not the high priced brand, that I have no idea what is good. I have used this the longest of any brand and I have had good results. I like aussie Moist for my long hair, and the Mega is pretty good for my husband. I used to use Finesse, but have heard that it is not good for your hair, but I don't know why.

While I am definitely not a fan of drug store brands you might want to visit your local Sally beauty Supply and check out a brand called AURA. It is a generic of Aveda. While the ingredients might not be the same quality it will certainly be better than Thermasilk of Finesse and you will be much happier with the results since you already use AVEDA. Good Luck
I`ve used Suave and White Rain shampoo practicly ALL my life (I`m 13) and my hair is in very good condition. I also have curly hair which most curly hair tends to be dry but mine is really soft. So cheap-o products work good for me! I use Suave moouse, Suave anti-frizz gel, and other *cheap* products like that. All the products I buy for my hair are under 4.00 and I get alot of compliments on it.

I happen to love Aveda also but of course it is very expensive. I am not totally against drugstore`s brand especially all of sudden you will find your brand that you were buying in a salon in a drugstore! lol So what does that say about the salons? hum. Supposely salon`s brand are supposely better and to some degree I would agree and we can find other salon`s brand cheaper than Aveda for sure and at times we can find something cheap at the drug store that works well like my cheapy purchase of Herbel essense. I see this stuff go as cheap as 99cents at times and it works on me but I do use for a while and then go back to the salon and buy other brands and keep changing.

Finesse worked great for me for a few days, then was awful after that. I`ve tried every store brand and hated them all.
Consider switching from Aveda to ARTec, which still works great but not as expensive as Aveda.
Do you have Ulta3 stores near you? I just bought the 32-oz ARTec Smoothing Shampoo and Smoothing Conditioner as part of a special 2 for $20. They also had several other kits of their products at an affordable price.
I`ve tried Herbal Essences but it dried out my hair even more than it is already. I`ve been using ZeroFrizz shampoo for about a month now and it seems to be good and makes my hair more manageable. However my biggest problem is in the hair at the top of my head. I have a lot of short, wiry strands (my hair is otherwise long) and I have no idea how to tame them. Absolutely nothing works. If anyone has an idea about what I could do, please let me know.

I currently use Clairol Renewal 5x Shampoo and Loreal NutriVive Conditioner and it`s a really nice combination. The 5X really strengthens my hair but it does dry it out a little but the conditioner makes up for that, Loreal Nutrvive is the best conditioner I have ever used compared to all the drugstore and salon conditioners I`ve tried and it smells great. My hair is in the middle of straight and wavy and I have normal hair. Hope this helps!
They should really have help programs for make-up addiction, I`d be the head of it! =)

I also just bought ARTec for $20.00. As the post above said the special price included one 32 oz of shampoo and conditioner but I bought mine at the JC Penney hair salon at the local mall. I`ve been using ARTec for awhile and the smoothing textureline is awesome on my long, thick and wavy hair. It smells great and has alot of natural products in it.
