I've been doing scalp massages with jojoba oil mixed with lavendar and rosemary essential oil. Lately I've been breaking out along my hair and on my scalp. Could the oils be causing this? I thought jojoba oil was good for oily skin. Is there anything to help prevent them?
Perhaps you need to thoroughly wash out the oils after you give yourself massages. A trick I learned from Karen's article on jojoba oil is to make a mixture of 50% shampoo and 50% water, work the mixture through the oily hair, slowly add water to form suds, and then wash the oils away. If you have oily hair, be sure not to leave any oil on the scalp- your scalp will produce its own oil soon enough and any oils left by your scalp massage may clog your follicles and pores and cause breakouts.
You definitely should not leave oils in an oily scalp as an treatment. Some essesntial oil treatments, you can leave on overnight but you must throughly wash it out the next day and no conditioning :) Perhaps the oils you're using are not strong enough. You definitrly need jojoba as the base. Why not try tea tree oil, bergamot or even eucylptus(spell check)?Tea tree oil works well for my dandruff and my scalp oilyness and I apply it in my stronger conditioner.I'm not sure about peppermint though. Most oily shampoo have peppermint as a main ingredient but most articles I've read don't mention peppermint oil for usage on oily scalps.Hope that help :)
