QuoteReplyTopic: Can I color over my highlights? Posted: July 03 2000 at 9:29pm
About 5 weeks ago, I highlighted my long medium brown hair with Feria Colour Strands in "Natural Swirl." I like the golden highlights it produced on my hair, but I'm wondering if it would be safe for me to color over it with a hair color that washes out in 6-12 shampoos or even a demi-permanent color (washes out in 28 shampoos). I would love to experiment with other looks and colors, but I fear my highlights will turn a hideous green color! Thanks for any hints or tips!

You can cover over your hilights but you have to be very careful not to use an ash or green based color otherwise blonde hilights will turn greenish or swampy looking. Depending upon how dark you want to turn your hilights is the question. You can use a warm based color and achieve a pretty light auburn color. If you are trying to get the lights back to a dark brown use a red based color. Hope this info helps. Forest
Thanks so much for the informative post, forest! I had a hunch that if I were to color over my highlights, I might need to use a warm color, rather than a cool. I'll let you know how my coloring adventure goes! Thanks again!
