I attempted to home color and highlight for the first time. And the base color came out great. Highlights came out orange. I added more of the base color over the highlights after my hair dried, and now its kind of red.
I'm trying to be a golden brown, with dark blonde highlights.
Can I do a semi-perm color over the highlights, so I don't look silly? Or get psyched to have wide headbands in my hair for the next month?

I did that to my brother :P he went true ginger styles (was meant to be a white blonde) as with many cases the peroxide level wasnt high enough in the dye hence the orange result. Hairdresser said to put a semi-perm over it, we did and it looked fine :)
I should add stick to a semi-perm colour that is as close to the golden brown as possible. It will "stain" the orangey highlights so when the semi perm washes out the highlights will still be there but will be more of a golden brown than an orange. Id give it another 6-8 weeks after applying semi perm before trying for the blonde highlights again :) and ud need to make sure you use a bleach with a higher peroxide level.
