I have seen street booths at festivals where they braid a small section of hair by the scalp and attach colored threads and beads to it. Normally, it will hang down longer than your normal hair. What is this called and how do I connect the thread to the braid? How many strands do I use, is it washable, and so forth. I want to do this and add feathers instead of beads.

Thank you much!

My friend had this done in Germany when she went there on vacation. I'm not sure how it is done but I know that she had it a long time and wore it in the shower, the pool, everywhere. I'm not sure how washable feathers would be though.

THis is called hair wraps. My wife came home with one after attending a festival in the state of Iowa. I found a book that showed how to do it and it including some thread and diferent ornaments. I now have a single braid down off of my right ear that I wrap all the time. I like it better than bands holding it. I`ve had them last a week or longer. Then I just get tired of it and do a new one. Take me about 15 minutes after I hae my hair braided.
