well, im a 16 yearold male and i have naturally curly hair, but i cannot stand it short, so i have let it grow out for a while (a long while haha).
well, i don't really know anything about hair, but i want it to be less "bushy" and more thin instead, but i want it just as long, since i want to eventaully grow it to just above shoulder length and i don't really want a gigantic curly afro. I don't really know how to tell this to a stylist ( i was told to go to one instead of just the normal hair cut place, hopefully that's the right choice), and my mom said something about getting it layered or textured, but again, i've never had long hair before and so i've never had to deal with this. I just want some advice on how to get it long
and also, what products can you use to help make really defined curls with NO frizz, which I can't stand
Ok, you didn't say how long it is now, but I will see if this helps. I have thick, wavy hair myself currently at its longest layer mid-back length. I say longest because it has long layers. My shortest layer is at my shoulder. I have finally reached the point where I am going to start just trimming the length instead of the entire hair. Or in short, I am going to start working on getting it one length. Why did I do it this way? Because at certain lengths my hair is more poofy and as it gets longer and more weighty, it is less poofy. Any stylist will tell you if you have thick poofy hair that layers is the way to go to hide that fact.
I am not convinced in that picture you post that person has layers. I think his hair is cut in a "U" shape, shorter in front than back.
Product to help frizzes--well, this is a trying time of year to help that. I live in the South so humidity is a constant enemy every time I go outside. Invest in a conditioner that is made for coarse, dry hair, also deep condition at least 2 times a month (30 minutes to 1 hour conditioner), than use a leave-in spray conditioner as well. Also, for curly, wavy hair, the blowdryer is your worse enemy because it will just disrupt your curls. As well, air-dry as much as you can, and keep your hands off while it is drying--meaning no brushing. Brushing your curls will afro your hair faster than sticking your tongue in a wall socket.
Good luck!
Sorry, didn't know; anyway, your hair looks good in that picture. Most girls would kill for those curls. Curly hair is hard to grow long; don't know why. I think it has something to do with being fragile especially if you brush it a lot. It may be less curly when you get it longer just from the weight of it cause it looks thick.
Good luck with the cut--I'm getting my hair trimmed tomorrow as well. My stylist is very long hair friendly. Talk to whoever you are using and tell him/her your long-term goals. He may have suggestions.
