Ok, I have waist length hair that I LOVE... I'd love it to be longer. Now, I wash my hair every day because if I don't then my hair just gets sringy from all the grease. And then, my scalp gets itchy... The only way I can get rid of this is to wash it... and I think all the washing is what's making it itch.... can anybody tell me a way to stop this before I just have a bad day and shave off all my hair?

I think you probably know that washing your hair every day isn't really good for it, that it doesn't give it time to replenish the natural oils. The point is, can you stop yourself washing it.

Assuming you have not yet reached the point of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, I would say that you just have to convince yourself that it really does not look stringy and greasy after one day. It really can't, unless the shampoo you are using is too harsh or the wrong type for you. Forget the Pantene ads - no one can have hair like that every day - and just accept, or get a person you respect to tell you, that it really doesn't look that bad after one day. Try and work towards washing it twice a week, which is fine.

Some people never wash it and find that after about 7 weeks it cleans itself!

Hi,

What brand of shampoo are you using? Some shampoos are harsh and can over-dry your scalp, giving you that unpleasant itchy feeling. Try diluting the shampoo just before applying it to your hair, or consider using a shampoo that may be less drying, such as Aubrey Organics' J.A.Y.

Also, it could be partly because you wash your hair (and scalp) every day that the sebaceous glands on your scalp are working overtime to pump out the sebum. I know it may seem odd, but you may want to consider washing your hair every other day. At first it will be really greasy but over time your scalp will adjust and make less oil.

You may also want to use a boar-bristle brush, after you've thoroughly detangled your hair, to spread some of the oils through the length of your hair. It will help give your hair a nice shine.

Hope this helps. Good luck and let us know if you have any questions!

I don't know what the guidelines are fo Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.... but I can't help but wash my hair every day.... if I don't it looks nasty and literally hangs in strings.... besides... if I didn't wash it every day, just think of all the germs and bacteria that would be crawling through it.... one day is bad enough, let alone two. Just thinking about that makes me sick.... and I think I'll go wash it now.
