QuoteReplyTopic: PROTACS FELL OUT IN SHOWER!!! :( Posted: September 10 2006 at 7:52pm
Hello ladies,
Well, I finally installed protacs with bohyme for the first time on my own head after reading all the how-tos on here! I followed all the advice to the letter, including putting them into bone dry, ultra clean hair. It was easy, and they looked so fantastic. I was so happy to finally have longer hair (my hair comes to a couple inches above my shoulders now, and it is fine and thin to medium). But, here is what happened...
I decided to shower! I followed all the care advice, I used pureology, I shampooed, and I only applied a little conditioner to the very ends of the hair, not ANYWHERE close to the tapes. When I got out, I immediately started blowdrying down by the tapes, whilst pushing them back down on the hair. I started pressing one down and I realized that half of it had slipped about half way down the length of my natural hair! Same with the next one, and the next one, and pretty much all but one of them! They were almost out, but stuck to the hair now that they were mostly dry...so I really had no choice but to hop back in the shower and take it all out. And, it was wierd because all I did was put a little regular conditioner (I was armed with acetone, mind you) on them, and poof! No tugging, no hair lost, they just slipped right out.
The reason I tell you all this is so you know what I did so that you can tell me: WHERE DID I GO WRONG!?!? I was so thrilled with it, why did it fall out? I want to put them back in, but I want to figure out what happened so I don't go to all the time and effort and lose them again....
Thank you so much for all your help, It is already much appreciated! :)

yes, 24 to 48 hours is usually good. The adhesive needs time to 'cure'. Also did you use the blowdryer on the tapes after you installed? I use the heat of the hair dryer on each row to help 'set' the adhesive. And really press them in good, when you think you have pressed them enough...press some more. Im so sorry that it didnt work out the first time for you
I did not use the blowdryer, either! I will try both of those things on my next install (which will hopefully be soon:)). Thank you so much for your help, Sherrie, your how-tos made the whole process really easy to start with!

I lost my entire head in the shower once, too. I should've known better to get in there as early as I did. Lost 26" length, 10oz of hair and a 2 hour install in the blink of an eye. Now I let them set no less than 3 complete days. Haven't lost an install since.
Another good thing is --if you sleep with a ponytail off to the side-- make sure it's a loose pony so it's not pulling at the tape (particularly at the crown and on the sides). Good luck!
Well, Amm, it makes me feel better to know I am not the only one! I just reinstalled and it looks better than last time. I followed Sherrie's advice of "curing" the tapes with the dryer, and I am going to wait a few days to wash, for sure. I am just sleeping with a stain sleep cap on (so sexy....:)), so I will post updates with pics when it works out:). Thank you so much!

Yeah, happened to me too, I washed right after the install, and they all fell out. So now I wait as long as I can humanly stand, atleast 24 hours, but usually more like 2-3 days. And I haven't had that problem. So you aren't alone.
Maybe that was the problem I used to have. I would wash my hair the next morning after installing and always had to anchor the wefts with shrinkies. I seriously need to invest in some dry shampoo. I can't go 2-3 days without shampooing without my hair getting embarrassingly greasy
