QuoteReplyTopic: HELP - GRANDMA HAIR!! Posted: September 29 2006 at 11:51am
Hi, all! I'm new to these forums: First, I'd like to say "thank you" to the creators,
administrators and posters for this site because it's AWESOME!!!
A little background: I'm 27 (female) and have been doing my own hair since I was 15...so
that's about 12 years. I've gone to the salon at times as well but have never been
satisfied with the experience. Not trying to sound snobby or that I can do a better job
than someone trained to do it, but I actually happen to be very good at doing my own hair.
Even stylists that I come across in regular daily activities compliment me, and I have been
urged by someone "you NEED to do hair for a living...I would pay you!!" :D But let me say I
do have a high respect for hair artists and I do believe MOST people should utilize those
services!
Anyway, I considered myself to be pretty good with my hair UNTIL...
I was bitten by the "blonde bug"!
I just had to have blonde hair. I'm talking 80's-punk-Blondie style, like a platinum-white
blonde.
So here's what I did: I started with medium-brown hair. I used Loreal Super Blue bleach
kit twice (two powder packets the first time, the remaining one packet the second time), to
get my hair as light as possible (like the inside of a banana) there was some yellow and
gold tones of course. Then I used Wella Color Charm toner in "Silver Lady" (T14) This
neutralized the gold and yellow and it took on a more cool, steely white shade. I left the
toner on for about 5-10 minutes instead of 20-30 because I didn't want my hair to actually
be silver/grey, I just wanted those gold tones gone.
So it's very light now and I'm happy with that...BUT! Instead of looking like 80's-Blondie I look like 80-year old Blondie! My hair is a flat color and looks really dead and it's fluffy. Like an old doll.
I'm thinking I should re-cut it...it is about mid-neck length, like a long-layered bob, so maybe if i cut some more of the denseness out of it. Now about the color...maybe I should color over it to give it some more life?? I still want to be a pale blonde, preferably a Pastel. Maybe some low-lights?
Well, after further research I think what I will do tonight is go find a nice semi or demi permanent (deposit only) blonde to infuse some reality into my hair and just condition the hell out of it (!) and use product to artfully give the impression of healthy hair. If I can get my camera some batteries as well I'll post before and after pics.
thanks

Helloo! Well you're certainly not the first to get the "blonde bug" as you put it. Sounds to me like you knew what you were doing and did a pretty good job.
I definitely think a demi /semi would get it exactly how you want it. I'd love to see the pics when your done.
