QuoteReplyTopic: Newbie Saying Hi/ Henna Question Posted: October 12 2006 at 8:45pm
Hi ladies,
I am new here and have had a blast reading all the posts. I have
been growing for about 19 mths, I had cut all my hair off last
year. I recently, this month, just passed my shoulders. YAY!!!!!
Question: I am prematurely graying. I am only 29 (for the next 6 days, that is).
I am thinking about using henna because it is natural.
I have done a lot of reading, so I think I am ready but scurrrred...
Any words of wisdom?
There is nothing to be afraid of. I can reccommend two good sites online- www.thehennacompany( on the upper right hand corner click on powders) and www.hennasooq.com .
Materials: henna, herbs (optional- i use fo-ti powder and amalaki powder), honey (optional), red wine(optional), ground cloves(optional), hot water (necessity) , gloves, newspaper for the bathrooom floor, relaxer applicator brush.
Mix your powders( henna and herbs) in a microwaveable bowl- then add hot water to make a paste ( stir until not lumpy and make sure that it is not too thick or too thin) at this point add a tbls or two of honey, lil red wine or couple of dashes of ground cloves if desired.
Transfer to a tupperware bowl and seal. Let it sit for three hours so that the dye can release- it will turn from green to brown. Apply with the relaxer brush. Then cover with a thin plastic cap. Leave on for a minimum of 6 hours since we have dark hair that is the min. to see any type of result. Then rinse twice, shampoo, condition and then deep condition for 45-60 min. HTH- Please ask if you need clarification on something.
After 6 or 7 treatments- my hair appears to be highlighted and the grays were covered almost immediately. I do a treatment weekly with no problems. The bare necessity is the henna and hot water. My hair felt better and better after each treatment and my shedding and breakage tottally stopped.
If you have leftovers that you plan to use in the next week place them in the fridge in the tupperware bowl. If it will be longer than that place them in the freezer. Thaw out when you are ready to use and you can make it into henna gloss by adding conditioner and honey.

I went back home to Miami this weekend and had a BLAST. My hubby
and my best friend thru me a surprise party. It makes turning 3-0
a bit easier. Now that I am 30, I need to cover these gray
stands....Henna here I come.
I'm also just getting up courage to try henna again after about 20 years!
It used to work fine and made my hair lovely and healthy looking, , then when I started getting grey hairs, they turned orange which I don't want, so I switched to chemical colours.
I have dark hair with chestnut lights, now a bit faded with a bit of grey. I had heard you can use henna and indigo to get more of a natural brown, has anyone tried this?
LadyEsquire, Happy Belated Birthday. Did you try the henna as yet?? I have been thinking about doing so, but I am still unsure. I have too much gray, and I certainly would not want orange hair. Please post about your experience, and what shade did you achieve with your gray hair, thanks.
