QuoteReplyTopic: i`M ADDICTED TO GETTING MY HAIR CUT!! Posted: February 13 2001 at 4:42pm
Hi. This may sound kind of weird, but I really like getting my hair cut, and have a hard time commiting to growing it out. For the past few years I have had short hair in differnet styles. But what i do is, I`ll get my hair cut differently, and then I`ll sAY that I`m growing it out, and I`ll grow it out for a feew months, and then I`ll just chop it off again! I`ve been really commited to growing it out so far and it has gone from being ear mouth length to shoulder length, but I have hated my hair through out the whole time of growing it out. I want to grow it about three more inches, but everyday I`m wishing that I could cut it short again! It`s kind opf like hair suicide- I want to get rid of my problems. Does anyone have any similar experiences or ideas?

courtney, if you read my post i am sure you know i have the same problem as you. only if i had mouth length hair to start from to grow it out, i would be in a much better position. first thing you have to do is ask yourself what style you would like to end up with. you say you want to grow it about 3 more inches. but how is your hair now? is it layered? all one length? if it is layered now, then you might want to consider slowly getting the layers cut out if you want it all one length. im not saying get it chopped, but just gradually get it all one length. if your hair is all one length now, then im clueless on what to tell you except, you say you havent cut it for a few months. but getting trims does help your hair grow, b/c it takes off any damaged hair you have. now if you have good will power, then just get trims every 6 weeks or so and maybe that will take off the edge of having to get it chopped. the only down side to this would be its not going to work if you go for a trim and keep telling them to cut it shorter and shorter. my hair right now is an inch to 2 inches all over and my grow out experience isnt going to be a pretty one. but ive been taking vitamens and doing hot oil treatments to keep it looking healthy, and to get it to grow faster and they really do work. as everyone has said on here, a b-12 vitamen or vitamen e works wonders. ive also noticed ive been in a better mood while taking the b-12. and eat lots of protein :)
Courtney, I totally understand what your going through. My hair is one length and it is just below my shoulders. I`m still growing it out, and it took me forever to get it to this lenghth. I`m happy that it is this lenghth, but I`m always kind of longing to cut it short again. Whenever I see cute short hairstyles in a mag, I want to get my hair cut sooooo bad. I promised myself, though, that I`d grow it out till summer. Then if I reall y really wanna cut it, I will. It`s really hard, but don`t give up!!
Courtney, I know what you`re going through, but please don`t think of it as hair suicide, it`s not that bad. What I think it is, is a conflation of two ideas. One, the desire for change as a means of quick self-fulfilment, and two the heightened perception of hair as that very means. I`ve been going through this for years, and have only recently been able to consider alternative means. They are: Styling it differently. Ask the hairdresser to suggest the most radically different style that would mean cutting the least off. Brush it a different way; ears can prove very useful in this respect. if all else fails, try a different color. No, a really different color. Or try a combination of all three ideas. Between them, surely something will work for you. Good luck.
I felt this way for years too, and this is going to sound weird, but last year I had to start taking estrogen and that feeling has left. I`ve only had my hair trimmed like 3 times in the last 2 !/2 yrs. I went from a fairly short shag to about 6 inches below my shoulders. I`m having it trimmed Monday, and for the first time in my life I`m dreading it. So I really do believe it may have something to do with hormones. I do know too, I used to always get the craving to have it cut along with PMS.
