Please help me out here. Ermm  I'm just asking for a little feedback what hair color is more flattering on a women as she ages.  I've read somewhere once before that a women should look at pics of when she was around the age of 18 and that is her natural hair color that she should go for.  I'm 37 and just want my hair color to flatter my fine lines not wash me out or anything else of that nature.  So the question I'm asking is as we age should we go with our natural color w/maybe highlights or should we lighten up all together w/maybe highlights.  Thank you.  Hug

ooooo....that font is sooo tiny, but somehow i was able to read it

i would think it can be different for different people, but i'll speak from my own experience: i am 36 and i had been bleaching/frosting/highlighting my hair to a platinum blonde for years and years.....it was cute on me when i was in my twenties, but after finally taking a good look in some pictures i decided that the highlights were also 'highlighting' my fine lines, making them more prominent

since the first of this year i've taken my hair down several shades of blonde, to an allover golden level 8 with some even darker strands on the back/lowest areas of my head....and my in my comparison pics its warmed up my face, and the compliments i get are that the new hair color has made me look younger and healthier while the lighter hair was aging and dated

i know many women as they age are told to go lighter because often hair thins and the lighter hair helps disguise that, but for me the warmer (golden) color has really helped

I'd go with natural color with highlights be it blonde, coppery, caramel, paprika....or such....save the really blonde all over hair color for when you get really old and really need all the help you can get.....37 is not old.....lol......<-------41 and still Foxyloxy.....in my mind.....lol......

Intresting topic. I have actually read in beauty magazines, that blonde does tend to make people look younger, and is associated with youth (because hair darkens as we get older and lighter hair is more often on younger people) It also went on to say that blonde brightens one's features which gives a younger apperance.
Having said all of that, certain blondes can look kind of old if they are too brash and harsh looking.(you dont want to go platinum)
I personally would go for the highlights, instead of all around blonding. It would be just enough to "brighten" your face without the pain of doing roots every 4-6 weeks.
I also have to add that I have had very blonde hair for the last 5 years.I recently went back to my natural haircolor and people think I'm younger! I'll be 30 in January and at my cousin's wedding (who is only 21) they wouldnt even serve me alcohol because they thought I was underage. That NEVER happend when my hair was blonde.
So...I guess it really does depend on the person. So go natural, and then add a few highlights. If you dont like it,you can always go blonde later.

I have to agree with jules on this one.  I am 32 and had been light blonde for the past few years.  Just last week I finally got back to my natural medium brown and the difference is AMAZING!  I don't look "washed out" anymore like I did with the super light blonde, and dark circles under the eyes are not so dramatic as they are with lighter skin in the colder months.  The darker hair seems to make my eyes stand out more than my fine lines and circles.

Go for the subtle highlighting instead of all over blonde.

Good luck and let us know what you decide!!
Wink
