hi everyone. I am new here. I have long hair to the middle of my back, but until a few weeks ago, it was down to the bottom of my butt. I was just wondering if anyone else here uses Panteen conditioner. I have been using it for years, and will never use anything else. Every time I go to get my hair cut, they always remark about how healthy my hair is and how few split ends I have. I also do not blow dry my hair ever, which probably helps. Anyway, does anyone else here have such good results with Panteen?

I think you'll find that most longhairs avoid Pantene like the plague on account of the 'cone content. Some have success with 'cones...most do not. And some hair splits more than others, regardless of what is used.
explain this to me. It is so confusing1 I permed my hair one year agor and I have been able to keep it looking pretty by using panteene hydrating curls. I either need to get a new perm (dont like it until about 6 mos later when its very relaxed) or just let it grow. Why is this shampoo so bad for my hair? and what product that wont kill my wallet work as well? UGH! my hair his 24" inches and growing. Is this shampoo causeing my breakage? I never ever blow dry and only use a very wide toothed Comb. I use loose scruchies and large claw clips and french braids, so I never tug at my hair.

The waxy build-up that results from Pantene can smother your hair. It can also weigh it down, makes it harder to blow dry. If you are thinking of having any chemical (perm etc.) done to your hair, there is a risk of not taking. i always warn my clients of this before any chemical service, However, most of my clients do not use it because I have warned them of these waxy effects.
I would reccomend Redken All-Soft for you. Alot of posters here will agree. It retails for $8.50 for a 10.1oz bottle. It is more concentrated than Pantene so you use less product, therefore it is not that much more expensive.
I am a professional Hairstylist/Haircolorist with 19 years experience. I have traveled all over the country for my advanced education. I am also a salon owner.:)........and I LOVE Redken!!!

Some people swear by Pantene, and, as Beatnik Guy says, others avoid it like the plague. It doesn't work for me (my hair generally prefers less inexpensive products), but if it works for you CHoney, and you like it, then by all means keep using it.
Your breakage could be largely due to the perm. Although perms are less harsh than they used to be many years ago, they do still stress the hair strands and make them more prone to breakage.
One way to find out if the shampoo is at fault is to switch to a bottle of something else, perhaps Redken All-soft as LiliBeach suggests. And see if the breakage situation improves. If not, you can always go back to Pantene after the bottle runs out.
I will look around for the All-soft. It will be worth trying it. I am being much more conscious of my length and not just cutting it off. I have also been deep conditioning it. Thanks for the explanation.

I still use Pantene occasionally, until my bottle's empty anyway. It does seem to weigh my hair down when I use it a few times in a row, so I only use it once in a while.
But on some occasions that I had used it, I have received compliments on how shiny my hair was. I'm not saying other products can't do that, just trying to point out something that is nice about pantene.
But if Pantene works for you, and I'm sure it does for more people than just you, why not keep using it? Products that work for person A don't necessarily work for person B.
But of course it's fun to try new products.

i agree with you isla q. i've use pantene once in a while. i've gotten compliments how shiny my hair is. i'm not saying that it's just the pantene that makes my hair shiny. i love trying new products.
Redken Extreme...both shampoo and conditioner...as well as the Extreme Anti-Snap...wonderful products. Leaves hair incredibly managable, SHINY, full of body. Have been using it for about 5 weeks now...NO buildup and hair is healthier, stronger from roots to tips and I color to cover first greys. A plus? Smells great!!!!
