QuoteReplyTopic: Question about going all blonde... Posted: November 26 2006 at 1:47pm
Hiya
I am male and have dark brown hair. I have decided to go blonde all over and would like a bit of advice!
I have seen the kits from Boots that allow you to do it yourself. I would rather do it this way as the hairdressers cost a bit more. My main question is, if I use this and it goes a little yellow (because I have had highlights done before and they were a bit on the yellow side!), then can I simply apply another box to make it go lighter?
Thanks,
Mark.

yes, the longer you leave the bleach on the lighter the hair gets. Bleach is good for about 90 min as long as it doesn't dry. Also, make sure you are using an on the scalp bleach. Start with the ends first then do the roots to avoid hot roots. Once you have bleached then you will need to tone the hair. Depending on what color you want is the level you need to bleach to. Pale yellow will get you very light soft blonde colors--if that is what you are going for.
Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Could you recommend an 'on the scalp' bleach or know of any good ones. When I was in Boots I saw so many brands: 100% Colour, Nice n Easy and so on, and I wasn't sure which one I should buy. Also one last question, are the blonde kits actually dyes aswell? Because I heard that you cannot put dyes on more than once!
Thanks.
Mark.

Thanks for the info. I havn't heard of Sally Beauty before. Boots ( www.boots.co.uk ) is a shop in the UK that sells a wide range of products such as Perfumes/Health/Beauty/Hair stuff.

I don't see hair bleach at Boots you may want to try elsewhere... since your hair is dark brown (virgin hair, I assume) you will need to bleach to get to a nice shade of blonde rather than orange.

Here in the uk, we do have sallys beauty stores they do not however do an online service for hair products, only for hair equipment like hairdryers, etc. They have stores all over, just search on line. Blonde kits are bleach, the one's from boots like nice&easy are ok, if you are going for this type of bleach, try and get one that has an ash tone, this will stop it going brassy yellow. You can also buy a violet toner, maybe from boots (not expensive) this will cancel out any yellow, orange (warm tones) which you can get with using any bleach products.
