New do needed for wavy thick hair

Hi,
after loosing my hair last October due to a chemical reaction (no, not perming or colouring, an allergy, yes it happens, rarely, but it does, scary enough!) my scalp finally healed and I grew back my hair.
Now I am looking for a nice style.
My hair is dark ash blond, first greys visible (aaahhh) and wavy. I have a cow lick in my bangs area on the right site of the head and my hair is thick and almost coarse. A little on the dry site due to medication....
I would love o go for a short to mid-length bob, a little tousled, not too clean.
Would you suggest layers or blunt?
I`ve been out of the style-business for too long and don`t really know what`s around. If you would like to share some ideas with me I would greatly appreciate it!
