I have fairly thin, easy to manage hair, but the house I have been living in the past year has extremely hard water. Now my hair never feels quite clean and is always tangled, so I end up putting it up in a ponytail before the morning is over. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can overcome the hard water, home remedies or products on the market???

Thanks!

Water becomes hard when minerals such as calcium, magnesium and copper are present. The minerals deposit on your hair, leaving behind a residue that`s difficult to wash out. Hard water can also make colored hair look brassy. To fight the effects of hard water, start by switching to a chelating shampoo (Aveda`s Detox is an excellent choice), which is designed to remove minerals and styling-product buildup. Because it can be drying, you only need to use it once a month. Follow with a conditioner for dry hair to help keep your hair moist and supple (Aveda Deep Revitalizing Treatment or even olive oil). To help remove any buildup that your shampoo may have missed, try this treatment every other week or so: Mix a half-teaspoon of white vinegar with a pint of distilled water. Pour it on your hair, let it sit for a 5 minutes and rinse out.
