First of all, I have gone to a few different salons to have my hair colored. I don't want anything drastic, but I wanted like a darker red/brown color, just a change from my black hair. (I'm Filipino) I've spent a few hundred dollars already at "professional" salons. Now I have premature grey (I'm only 24, and it's on one part of my head, all the women in my family have this, and I do dye this part of my head every 6 weeks). I'm at my wits end. One spot, I had nice red color, but only on part of my head. Ended up using a semi permanent dye. I had another salon, a few months later turned orange after 3 days. Dyed it black using semipermanent. A few months ago, I had a great haircut, asked the stylist to dye it, um, it was just orange, and I left really upset. Now I'm looking into coloring my hair at home since it seems I've just had bad luck with salons. I need suggestions from people (it's been almost 3 months since I used to semipermanent, and one spot of my head does have hair dye to cover up grey) on how to go about doing this. I just want to go really dark reddish brown, nothing too drastic. Thanks!

Its true that black asian hair is the hardest to dye, because its so hard to lift the color. I am suprised that you went to salons and did not get what you paid for.
Technically, dark brown is a shade that is actually very hard to dye on black asian hair. I have tried so many dark browns, it ended up looking black. I am also at my wits end. So I ended up just bleaching my hair now. I let the bleach lift my hair colour until it turn into brownish red before i rinsed it off. It works better than any permanent home hair colourant.
You can also try bleach on your hair, and see if it can lighten to shade you want. If I am not mistaken, bleach can also lift grey hair. Another plus when using bleach, is that if you think the color is too light, or to orange for you, you can just use a semi permanent color to color it back. Another bonus is when you use semi permanent color, the shade that you will get is much lighter and closer to the one shown on the box.
