Are there any good hair color placement designs guides, galleries, or anythign on the internet?  Right now I've been using all over color with 20 vol and I'm thinking of switching to deposit only for a bit but I want it to be dimensional (thinking of getting the Elumen by Goldwell done as I've loved their topchic for the last 4 years)...anyway...I am moving and I'm not sure of the stylist I'll be using SO I need a good photo to take in.  Any good suggestions?

If you look at the elumen website (elumen-haircolor.com), I like the sunset design with the dark chocolate red top layer with light blonde underneath.  My hair currently is about like Nicole Kidman in Chanel (not faded out blond like it is now) (actually my skintone is the same too and my eyes are grey-blue), but my hair is very straight so I'm not sure an edgy blend that looks good on short hair would work well for long straight???  My natural haircolor (unless I've completely forgotten LOL) is a dark mousy blonde probably a level 7 though I'm not sure.  At the moment I have obvious roots but I have trouble not thinkig its "black" though I know it isn't LOL

Anyway, any suggestions?  I'm very set on trying Elumen because so many people are raving about it so if anyone has specific suggestions from that line I'd really appreciate it.

I am going to rave about goldwells elumen too, lol. I have used it on clients and its fantastic, the colours last so long. The only thing is you need to bleach the hair to almost white to get the best results, but the colours are so vibrant they look sharp. Elumen does not damage the hair, leaves it so shiny.  Fantastic fashion colours.Try their web site.

Hmm, Karen--need some advice then.  I definately want to stop using peroxide for a bit because of some hair damage I have because I had malaria and dengue fever about 3 months ago so I'm shedding and my hair has become quite fragile.  So I haven't touched up roots or anything but it looks bad to me anyway...so do you recommend the Elumen without bleaching?  On the website I see where some sectionings are lifted first but many do not mention lifting first..of course I realize they are also the pros with their own product and the models may have ideal hair to begin wtih....so my roots (about an inch or slightly less) are the mousy blond I describe and the ends are like Nicole Kidman as I described above in the Chanel ads from a few years back....any thoughts?

If you weren't across the pond I'd find you and have you take a look :)

Now I use the 20 vol topchic with mix of 9gn & 8kg so I'd like to probably stay around the same but of course it will be somewhat darker.  I hope I can find a skilled person.  Near where my parents live (well an hour+ away) there are 3 salons that I could try.  Wish I could just do it myself as I have never heard of these salons and am not sure that they are of any reputation to speak of.

Anyway sorry so long but my hair is really bugging me right now.

Hi,

With your hair being a mousy brown you will get some colour to penatrate yor hair, but to get the most from the Elumen fashion colours you do need to bleach the hair first. As you said you want to avoid the peroxide for a while due to your recent illness ( hope your feeling better now). Why not try Goldwells semi colours, ok the dont last as long, but they have a very low peroxide 1.9%, which has no damage to the hair. I am not greatly clued up with Goldwell, as I only worked with it for a short time. I use Schwarzkopf Professional on clients , and I love their colour range and easy to work with products. There is no harm in going into a few salon's and getting a free consultation on the best colours to use on your hair.
