at first i was not a believer of hair stripping, but now that my hair has changed from black to a lighter brown, i now am. (i have never died my hair)

well, i think the colprit is the VO5 moister milk strawberries and cream shampoo that i use, because prior to using this (I started using this in October '06) my hair color has changed to almost black to an almost chest nut brown. on another forum I saw that some ladies hated this shampoo because it "stripped" the hair.

I have noticed that the change happened gradually and is now becoming even brighter.

could it be changing the darking that my perm once gave my hair?

is the VO5 shampoo to blame?

could it be somthing else?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

products that i have used since October (when i first started my journey to healthier hair)

- VO5 Moisture Milk Shampoo Strawberries and Cream (weelky)
- Soft Sheen Carson Optimum Care Relaxer
- Soft Sheen Carson Stary Strong Conditioner (weekly)
-Suave Clarying Shampoo (clear) (bi-weekly)
- LeKair Cholestoral (peach colored kind) * used once last month
- Dove Moisturizing Shampoo (switched to this when i saw that VO5 was a actually leaving my hair dry)
- WGO (weekly)
- Hot Six Oil (used twice)
- VO5 Split End Conditioner (used once on ends only)

here are the ingredients to the VO5 moister milk strawberries and cream shampoo that you use.

Ingredients

Water Aqua , Sodium Lauryl Sulfate , Cocamidopropyl Betaine , Sodium Chloride , Ammonium Chloride , Glycine Soja Seed Extract Soybean , Fragaria Vesca Leaf Extract Strawberry , Tocopheryl Acetate , Biotin , Thiamine HCL , Ascorbic Acid , Panthenol , Polysorbate 20 , Glycol Stearate , Propylene Glycol , Sodium Laureth Sulfate , Citric Acid , Tetrasodium EDTA , Sodium Benzotriazolyl Butylphenol Sulfonate , DMDM Hydantoin , Fragrance Parfum , Red 40 CI 16035 , Red 33 CI 17200

It has ascorbic acid in it. As far as doing some research ascorbic acid will lighten pigmentation in skin and hair.
i think i will buy some of this. seems like a nice way to get some colour without the peroxide.

i hated the Vo5 shampoos but i really like the conditioners...after i used the shampoo my hair had that "stripped" feeling...I think you should look at a different brand of shampoos...

ive also noticed that i have a lot of split ends, which i didnt have a problem with until i strated using this shampoo.

i found my self almost dusting every DAY or so when i started using this shampoo.

do any of you have any other recommendations for moisturizing shampoos? i have already considered using Dove, but i havent heard anyone raving about it.

I love Vo5 moisture milks conditioner to death but I wouldn't use the shampoo because it has Sodium Lauryl Sulfate which is very stripping. If your looking for a moderately priced good poo Motions Lavish is good. Pricier but excellent: Kenra MC & Kiehls Amino Acid poo. I would recommend doing a protein & deep moisturizing treatment to get your hair feeling in better condition. HTH

I can't really say, however, i noticed that relaxers can change the color of your hair.

The other members gave great advice as well

Two best shampoos i have found thus far are Nexxus Therrappe and Creme of Nature Formula for Dry, Brittle, and Damaged hair (I butchered the titles).

.. You can find all of the products online!  I don't buy my products online. I usually shop at Ulta for KeraCare and Kenra.  Suave is at Target.  Ulta is a good professional-product store carrier.  It's expensive, but considering what the Asian owned beauty supply stores charge, it's CHEAP.  Look up Ulta Beauty when you get a chance! If you can't find that, I'd advise finding an Asian owned beauty supplier that carries professional products.  What exactly do you mean by Perm solution?  You would like to try a different relaxer?  I havent relaxed in so long I hardly remember what it's like except time-consuming and not effective.  I've heard Affirm and Phytospecific is great, but again that's professional products.

I'm guessing your not from the UK?

In the UK perm solution is what we call the stuff (lotion/neutraliser) we use to curl our hair with rods/chemicals (I know chemicals are a bit of a no no...but!)

Yes, its a relaxer, but I kind off associate that more with permanent chemical  straightening (yuko system etc)

I have always, up until a few year ago, when I had the yuko system done, permed my own hair, as the hairdresser did it once and made such a terrible mess! I used to want to be a hairdresser, so I taught myself dif techniques etc, using my head and friends! thankfully, the results were always good!!

One of my friends (I were about 12/13 at the time) had really thick frizzy heat damaged (badly) hair (looked afro, but she is white) which were past her bum....so...we decided to do something about it...and chopped it off!!! lol...I then thinned it out, with some jagged scissors (I don't know correct term!) and softened the edges to frame and suit her face, it looked fab...her mum mind was in a state of shock, as it were now shoulder length!! but she did like it an thought she'd had it done proffesionally!

Thank god I didn't get into to much trouble once she found out ;p lol

I'll check google for some of the products mentioned ;-) Thanks ;-)
