my hair is healthy and shiny but i can't get rid of all my split ends. i have long hair almost to my waist not there yet. i get my hair trim reugarly. [every eight weeks] i still get some split ends. my hairdresser saids i have healthy hair and cuts what needs to be cut. i never leave the beauty shop without someone complimenting what pretty hair i have. i let it air dry on it's own. i use a leave in conditioner. my cousin and i talked about getting split ends. the same happens to her. is this just part of having long hair? does everyone with long hair have some split ends? it would make me feel much better i'm crazy when it comes to my hair.

Most people with long hair get split-ends - they are normal and indicate exposure and drying out of the cortex.
Don't worry about getting them cut or travelling up the hair-shaft. Hair has a growth cycle and the hair will eventually fall out and be replaced with fresh growth. hair-dressers love to worry people about this to the point of generating paranoia - of course, this is because their livelihood depends on trimming and cutting, not reassuring you that splits are natural or advising you on how to prevent them.

My advice, in a word, to stop future splits: OIL.

Suggest you do some research and experimenting on what is best for your type of hair and what your personal preference is in terms of the oils, application on damp or dry hair, pre-wash oiling, light or heavy oiling, hot-oiling, leave-in oils, etc, etc.

Ooops - that was more than one word. Oh well, I always get carried away.

make sure all your hair combs and accessories are hair friendly (smoothed seams), and that you use some kind of detangling product (such as conditioner) on your hair. Other than that, there's probably not much you can do.
